FEED SOFT CORN TO LIVE STOCK, ADVISE EXPERTS
Means of Saving "Wet" Grain Discussed By Purdue Professor. The movements originated by Presi dent J. C. Hazelrigg of the Indiana Grain dealers, In the Cambridge City section, and by Berry Brothers at Lynn, that nothing can ba done by husking corn in a soft condition, and that means should be taken to prevent a total loss, have been endorsed by Prof. A. T. Wiancko, head jt the crops and soils department of Purdue University. All over Wayne county elevator men are urging drying in the shock, -with the possible exception of early corn that can be profitably dried In the well ventilated crib. Out of 160 samples received by J. A. McCarthy at Purdue from five acre contestants, not more than 20 show suitability for cribbing. Feed It To Stock Farmers generally are following the advice tendered by elevator and Purdue men that corn should be fed to live stock before it decays where moisture tests show from 25 to 48 percent. Elevator men will not handle any corn that is above the government percentage. Their advise is to wait, and let the corn dry in the shock. Careful sorting is urged, and the soft ' corn, the experts say, should be mixed with clover hay or oats straw, with cotton seed meal where available, for a stock ration. The ration should be fed to inferior animals of little value before trying It on the more valuable stock. '

PERSUING SEES LOGGING REVIVAL PERSHING, Ind., Nov. 21. Harvey and Homer Burch sent a double deck of hogs, 114 head, averaging 216 pounds, to Indianapolis, Wednesday. Both are hog raisers, and have 38 and 58 acres in corn respectively. A deal of elm, beech and sugar logs are being shipped by Pershing farmers to Marion, Ind. Harvey Burch, whose father came here in 1864, said Tuesday, the logs recalled the days when as a boy he assisted his dad cut j logs for the railroad. They did not think much of the good wood which j was abundant, for all kinds were cut ; for the locomotives, to be used for fuel. What was cleared off the land would have made a tidy fortune nowadays. Two church events are scheduled in Pershing. The Zion Lutheran church will hold a union service Sunday, which Rev. F. M. Hanes will conduct. Th& Evangelical Allbright church congregation will give a social and turkey dinner, Thanksgiving. The Hazelrigg elevator company here has purchased 50,000 bushels of grain this season, and a deal has been shipped. The coal dealers have stocked up, and the acute situation has passed. Grocers still complain of the scarcity of sugar and are selling the same in ten cent lots this week.

On account of the delay in shipping and the rush of orders in the factories where many skilled workmen are in the service, late orders will be very difficult to fill. Anticipating this condition, we have our Christmas stock in earlier than usual and are ready for holiday business now. We urge early buying and special orders, silver to match, etc., must be ordered at least a month before Christmas to insure delivery. Factories are working day and night with half their quota of men; express and freight are both uncertain in point of time. Goods will be laid away for future delivery. A small deposit will hold any article. We advise early buying.
