By McManiis Program atWashington The new Sfclznick-Picture in wfcich Norma Talmadge Ip seen to great advantage as the star tells the story of a young Bociety woman who wastes her time seeking diversion and flirting with fate until sharply brought to her senses by a dramatic incident calculated to thrill the most blase of movie fans. This picture, which will be seen at the Washington theatre, today, is the first of a series of eight select pictures in which Norma Talmadge will be seen during the coming year. Seven or eight years ago a little Canadian girl left Montreal, determined to eonquer the theatrical center of the United States. She was Florence LeBadie and at that time few persons had ever heard her name. But Florence had made np her mind that she would become an actress and when she decides to do a thing she does it She besieged the booking offices and finally obtained a part with Chaunoey Olcott in "Ragged Robin." She toured the country in that play and returned to New York to find that people were taking an interest in a strange new art the motion picture. . She heard that a man named D. W. Griffith seemed to be making the best pictures and Fhe decided to join the Biograph company. She approached Mr. Griffith and told him of her decision. There was nothing left for him to do but to make her a member of his company. After several years in Biograph pictures she jeftned Thanhouser. She made a great hit in "The Million Dollar Mystery," one of the first and most successful motion piqture serials ever made. She is to be seen as the star in "The Woman in White," at the Washington theatre Sunday. This is a Pathe Gold Rooster play in six reels produced by Thanhouser from Wilkie Coilins'' famous novel of the same name. Virginia Pearson will be seen next Monday at the Washington theatre in William Fox's latest photoplay "Thou Shalt Not Steal." "Thou Shalt Not Steal" is a detective story with a gripping power and mss Fearson who plays the part of Mary Bruce takes full advantage of the emotional possibilities in the story. "The Maid of Belgium" is the at tention riveting title of the new World-Picture Brady-Made in which Alice Brady wpl appear as the star at the Washington theatre pn Wednesday and Thursday- The picture tells the story Qf a Belg;an refugee brought to America by wealthy Americans who find her half crazed by the destruction of her home and the loss or her friends and relatives. Miss Brady has a vital and highly emotional role which . shp portrays with her customary success.. "The Maid of Belgium" is a gliitery success.
