Bread must be sold only in 16 ounce loaves or multiples thereof, or in 24 ounce loaves. These loave3 must not weigh more than 17 or 25 V2 ounces, unwrapped, twelve hours after baking. Return of unsold bread by retailers will be prohibited under the new government regulations, and likewise it will be unlawful to make any cash payments, allow credit for unsold bakery products, "or exchange any of them for other bread or bakery products." The new government regulations will

American Soldiers in France Getting "Lots ?f Excitement"
American soldiers in France are having "lots of excitement" according to Roland H. Walls, who is with the expeditionary forces, in a letter to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Walls, 420 Southwest Second street. "The excitement does a fellow good, provided, he doesn't get too much of one thing," he tells his parents. "There are a lot worse places than this." Walls, who is a member of the 1st mortar battery, says he's going to "camp" in picture shows when he returns. And American tobacco tastes -mighty good "over there." " -' r Te gives his regards to former fellow workmen at the Starr Piano faccory, where he was employed prior to -the time he enlisted, in April.

Practice at the rifle range (above), visiting French army officers with American officers and wives (below, left), and teaching the landlubber rookie how to hold his course at seat through the use of a "deck" 'SO arranged as to give the sensation of pitching and tossing on the wavese.
Teaching the arts of the sea on dry land appears to be a difficult undertaking, but it is proceeding rapidly and with excellent results at the Great Lakes naval training camp in Illinois. More than 1,000 blue-jackets and commissioned officers are becom
ing expert marksmen as a result of
the formation of the navy rifle club, a recent addition to the training station, holding weekly drills and competitions at the rifle range. A large deck or platform, with a regulation steering wheel, is used to drill the
boys in holding a course on the sea
and Itis so constructed as to give them the pitching and tossing of rough waves. The camp was recently visited by a group of French army officers who reviewed the jackies at their training.

What Billy Sunday Says ": r ! . . In one of his meetings at Boston the noted evangelist said, "I believe that every disease can be cured by some weed if we can only discover it. There is not an ailment that God hasn't somewhere an herb growing that will cure that ailment." The choice medicinal herbs which will cure women's ailments were discovered more than forty years ago, and have been doing that beneficent work for half a century. Lydla E. Pinkham combined them in convenient form in her famous Vegetable Compound, which is to be found in the drug stores where every ailing woman may conveniently get it at small cost. It does the work! r LOUISVILLE, Ky..' Nov-: W. The meeting of the Central League i club owners, scheduled to be held today, was postponed 'until tomorrow4, to await the acUon of the National associatIon,Mn repard to redistrictlng and re-classlflcation of minor league territory. Harry W. Stahlhefer, president of the league, was unwilling to make any predictions in regard to the 1918 season. Some of the club owners, he said, - had expressed a willingness to suspend. "If we decide to start, I shall recommend the adoption of a 84 game schedule instead of 120 games." Stahlhefer said. "Then, if the war seriously threatens our operations, we will be in a position to end out season without serious loss. "Attendance figures for last eason revealed by President Stahlhefer showed a decrease of nearly 50 per
cent over normal conditions. Some of the clubs drew less than 25,000 persons for the entire season. These same clubs a year ago drew between 40,000 and 50,000. Rickey Denies Charge. Branch Rickey, president of the St. Louis Nationals who attempted to sign Jack Hendricks manager of the
Indianapolis club of the American association, for next season, issued a statement today replying to charges of tampering made by James McGill, president of the Indianapolis club. McGill holds Hendritk'3 -contract which does not expire until 1919. '.'MoGill admitted to me that he had given Hendricks his word that he wouldn't release him," Rickey said, "and I resent the accusations made by him. When Hendrick3 informed me that he was at liberty to negotiate I
put every penny I could offer into his
salary, thinking, of course, that I
would not be called upon to reimburse
McGill. . "I regret that I failed to land Hendricks. It was a big disappointment.
I want to make it plain however, that I acted in a straightforward manner. I did not attempt to steal Hendricks. There is no ' truth to reports that I have opened new negotiations. The deal is off insofar as I am concerned."
