DENVER, Colo., Nov. Following a I cpurious trail for more than twenty years brought 1. W. Schrimsher of this city to a spot that covered part of a buried city and a mine of rich mineral deposits. In addition to val uable ore Schrimsher declares he baa discovered important relics of an early American period. Schrimsher. according to his story, sat beside a road leading out of: Springfield, Mo., one sunny afternoon in June, 1895. He was eating his lunch when the glimmer of crystals in an apparently ordinary rock in tne sharp sunlight met his eye. He picked up the rock and discov, ered that one side had at one time been polished. He examined it more closely, to find that It was dimly inscribed. With hia knife he sought to decipher the inscription by scraping the side. He found it, he says, to be a compass with the numerals "3-5-7." To him they meant nothing. Found Other "Markers." His curiosity was aroused and he returned, he says, to the vicinity t bis find a few days later. A search revealed a similar rock, less bright than the first, but also bearing an inscriptionthis time the numerals "11-11-1787-75." The second rock was less than 1,000 feet from the first, and Schrimsher pressed to find others. Puzzled at the strange impressions which each bore and meeting With failure at each successive attempt to learn their .meaning. Schrimsher finally set out with a team and wagon to follow them "to the end." With his wife, who at first scoffed at the idea, Schrimsher. left Springfield in the latter part of July, 1895. Patiently the couple drove westward, at times remaining several weeks in one spot where the trail of markers was lost, either through re rnoval or the work of the elements. When it was picked up later, on they pressed until .overtaken by w$nter when, according to Schrimsher, they returned to their home in Springfield. Their search, extending over four months, bad led them to a point eighty-seven miles west . ef Spring' field. The trail was taken up the following spring where Schrimsher1 and his wife had left it In the fall, The summer's Bearch took them 374 miles west of their home in Springfield, and, instead of returning, they decided to work on a f arnj through, the winter and continue the seafch in the spring. This is the procedure which Schrimsher says he ad his wife followed until they reached Colorado, three years later, when they began to make their home in Denver and Pueblo, Trail Became More Difficult. The trail became more and more difficult to follow as the couple continned in Colorado, where snow and rock " Slides combined to " remove many of the markers or obscure them from view by coverings of earth and rock. It was not until tne fall of 1911 that Schrimsher, after having covered thousands of miles in - relentless search for the trail when It was lost for periods of several summers, ultlmates reached the spot where be was destined to unearth prehistoric relics and a mine rich in mineral. Schrimsher and his wife were not in search of gold, he says. They bad be-

They reached a marker- at last which bore a circle within which were Inscribed two crescents. It was a new inscription, and Schrimsher with a shovel proceeded to dig out tne rock which bore it. He struck a wall, then a. sunken roof. He dug through It, and beneath ' it he found the skeleton of a man.- About . the body - were numerous mark&d Stpnes and a large quantity of charcpal.
