Do Not Say, "We Can't" But "We- Must"
We have not yet made a real sacrifice with money for the war. Wayne County has made no contribution for the comfort of our soldiers since the Red Cross Campaign last spring. It is true we have all subscribed liberally for Liberty Bonds but these are only an investment yielding an interest. Now winter is here and our boy's must be provided with home comforts such as only the Y. M. C. A. is prepared to give. About 500 of our Wayne County boys are now in the service and this number will soon be doubled. If it's your boy away in the foreign land offering his life to make America safe for you, with the severe, bitter months ahead and he is tired, cold and mud-stained, would you not be eager to comfort him? You must depend on the YOUNG MEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION to do this for you. You can only -help, by giving money If it's your boy doing this for you, you should be doubly ready to give. A nation wide campaign will be made next week to raise $35,000,000.00 of which Indiana must provide $1,000,000.00 and Wayne County's share is $25,000.00. Is $25.00 too much to give to your boy to provide him with the nearest to home comforts for the next eight months that are possible to provide at the front? This is what $25,000.00 will mean to them. Every Citizen Will Be Expected To Contribute Next Week. Every Dollar Goes to the Front for the Comfort of Our Boy's
President Wilson, who has issued a general order giving Y. M. C. A. work an official standing in the Army and Navy says : "May I not express the very high value I have attached to the work accomplished by the Y. M. C. A., and my sincere personal interest in the large plans of the National War Work Council for the work still ahead of the Association ?" Ex-President Taft says: "We should feel proud of the Y. M. C. A. work which is directed so ably. Are we going to be backwarad in giving our men the nearest thing they can get to a Christian home on the firing line?"
Ex-President Roosevelt says; "What the Y. M. C. A. has been doing in Europe has been really remarkable; and how our citizens should aid them to do work of the same type for our own troops." General Pershing says : "The Y. M. C. A. welcomes the soldier. It gives him the opportunity of improving himself physically, mentally, morally. Strong muscles, clear brains, high ideals in the soldier increase the lighting1 efficiency of the soldier."
