BIG PRIZE IN AUTO CONTEST

SS AT GARAGE

Chevrolet Eieht Reaches

Richmond Still Time to Win Grand Trophy. The Palladium's Chevrolet "Eight," valued at" S1452.30 arrived in the city Monday and Is now on display at Bethard's Nation al Garage on East Main street: To ray that it is a beauty is expressing it-.vety mildly as there is.r.o finer appearing car in Richmond. It is a big, roomy, eight-cylinder touring car, painted in an attractive

light green color, which gives it a rich look. It resembles cars of the ?5,000 class. The candidates and their friends who have seen the prize express their delight and are very much surprised that such a grand prize is to be given away, for a little of their time spent in gathering old and new subscriptions to The Palladium. The win r.er of this car can well feci proud to drive anywhere or any place and be considered in the "400" class. , A special invitation is given all candi- ' dates and their friends to call at the

National garage and inspect this grand car and note its superior qualities as nothing like this before haa ever been given away by any newspaper in this part of Indiana or vicinity. The vote table this week good until 8 o'clock on next Monday night, October 29 th, gives one and all the same opportunity to forge to the front and

win the grand prize. A book or two of old and new subscriptions will give hundreds of thousands of votes and put you in line to win an auto prize. Make up your mind to win right away. Remember, this offer will continue for only 5 days from now until Oct. 29, Inclusive and will not be surpassed by any subsequent inducer'ents. This is the last BIG opportunit for candidates to run the gauntlet of the vote column from bottom to top; it enables late starters and hitherto inactice contestants to get a firm hold on Victory. . Coming, as it does, near the end of the campaign, it serves as an eleventh , hour opportunity to those who want to gratify their desires and win a splen- ' did touring car. The next five days well spent in gathering subscriptions will be a decisive factor in the ultimate distribution of prizes to work now is to win later. Nothing could be more simple than this offer. " Why, it virtually takes a candidate to heights hitherto unthoagbt of. To make the utmost of it is to court victory with every chance of making good. How easy it is to rise, in per"htxps one or two days, to an equal basis with the leaders. And how easy it will be to keep on a.-.d on, until the votes opposite your name will be enough for you to win the $1,452,000 Chevrolet. Opportunity is knocking loudly now. Keed the summons and invite her in tc- stay until the campaign is over. Moke good on the jump and the last strenuous days will be made easier. It's pleasant work gathering subscrirv tions to The Palladium. People who Lave not read its columns will see" v.hen appraised of its excellent news

service and literary features that the

subscription price in insignificant compared with what is offered in return. Besides, they will be glad to help an rmbitious candidate.

Ladies and gentlemen who have not

entered still have a chance to get into

the prize distribution. It is pleasant work for three weeks' time. Every person has a chance to win aggressiveness and preseverance are the 1-rincipal qualities that will determine the future motorists. . The Circulation Campaign is rapidly drawing to a close. Those who hesitate now will be left behind by the candidates who will sweep everything before them. Determination can do venders, if the will is only there; and just as surely as candidates put J forth the best there is in them they

General Von Hlndenburg (left) and General von Ludendorf. Pictures from inside the German lines are rare enough and a recent one of the German war chiefs leaving their headquarters reached this country with some difficulty. General von Ludendorf, chief of the imperial general staff is believed to be the real director of the kaiser's armies. He recently issued an order demanding the economy of both men and munitions.

INDIANAPOLIS. Oct. 24. The Indiana State Council of Defense today authorized the following: The wisdom of buying the second Liberty Loan issue of United States government 4 per cent bonds, which are jion-taxable except' for super-incomes and inheritances, is being brought home to citizens of Indiana, very effectively. - Few savings "institutions pay more

than-3 per cent for time deposits.

Such savings are taxable. The average

tax rate in Indiana is so high that

these interest earnings are practically

all required for the payment of taxes.

Records of banks and trust companies show that the savings accounts of the American people were scarcely

touched for purchase of. the first is

sue of the Liberty loan. There was

"extra" money enough available from

the 4,000,000 of subscribers to allow

tnese J per cent tunas to remain on

deposit intact

Jealous of Continuity The fact that these savings accounts are built up by small, regular contributions has fostered a jealous regard for their continuity. Yet in this char

acteristic, such funds are no more attractive than the purchase of Liberty bonds. For practically every bank and savings company in the country will willingly sell bonds of small denominations to the little investor upon an agreed payment of so much per week or per month. ' And the United States bonds are non-taxable. The holder of the Liberty loan securities need not hesitate to look the tax assessor in the eye while declaring his property. In fact he can even tell the assessor the truth without beingpenalized for it. A clear ' conscience on assessment day is worth something. This added to the value of the bonds made the Liberty loan issue the best thing in a financial way that has ever been offered the American citizen of limited means. . -

YOU had to give Grandmother credit when it came to doctoring the family. Out came the Turpentine bottle every time Johnnie cut his finger, wrenched his knee, got poison ivy or a bee sting. Out it came for Daddy's cold or lumbago for Sister's sore throat or headache for 'most every injury or ailment that comes with the raising of a family. It was a greasy bottle, a "smelly" liquid and, my, how it did burn, but Turpentine did the trick every time. That was the old way a good way.
