It will be seen by the above figures that Economy 'will not be looking for an egg famine this year... ..While Mies Pearl Garrison, Montpelier, was visiting here last week, on one trip from Economy east of town she found five four-leaf clover leaves.... Mrs. Emma Clark is satisfled that there is big money in poultry. By the last of this week she will have sold $200 worth of eggs and young fries in the last twelve months. ....Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Cain spent Wednesday afternoon in the City Beautiful, Richmond Wednesday afternoon two Richmond men dropped in to have a friendly chat with Nate Edwards. They were A. J. Korthaus and Kent Lemen. He was the last man in this part of Indiana to do so.. ..At the country home of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Cain, south, of Economy, a surprise was given their daughter, Gertie, by the L. 17. B. church C. E. society, Sugar Grove, Tuesday night. It was one of the largest social events of the season. There were sixty-five people in the bunch of surp risers with hearts brimful of joy and , armloads of good wishes for the surprised one. Music, recitations, games and buns and pumpkin pie eating finished up the evening's social .... Bud Ladd, negro, who resides near Losantvllle, was remembered with a surprise . on his birthday anniversary. .. .A whole jitney load of E. H. S. pupils made a raid on Tom Cain's cornfield Wednesday afternoon to pick seed corn. There has been enough corn selected and graded to plant Perry township twice over the past few days. ...Will Conarroe, the chicken man, hauled two loads of poultry to Greensfork this Thursday and Friday, paying 19 and 20 cents a pound... Some twenty years aeo several farmers had their fodder with the corn on, cut into short pieces with a big power cutting box and the old method is going to be tried again this fall by a few up to date farmers. . Miss Vergle Stanley and Miss VenBerlen, who visited Mrs. Howard Stanley a few days the first of the week, have rteurned to their homes at Richmond .Lon and Nate Edwards have been batching the last several days, and Wednesday evening, Mr. and Mra. It pays to batch when remembered with such an outlay of eats....Jard Denney and Ora Johnson have just finished a log cutting contract for timber men. They finished Wednesday.

SUGAR FAMINE IS IMMINENT IN NEW YORK CITY

Sales Limited; Curtailment of Christmas Supply of Candy Threatened. NEW YORK, Oct. 19. With wholesale sources of supply virtually shut off, and refiners unable to get the material. New York is threatened with a sugar famine. Many stores have been without sugar for several days and those dealers who have a supply on hand are limiting sales to a few pounds to each customer. Alarmed at the scarcity many housewives went about the city today buying a pound or two and carrying It home as fast as they could find It. Prices have gone up and some sales as high as 15 cents a pound have been reported. Henry Moskowitz,. the newly appointed city commissioner of markets, planned to meet with refiners, wholesalers and retailers today in an effort to arrive.at some solution of the problem. Meanwhile householders have been urged by the commissioner to practice rigid economy In the sugar supply. Many restaurants already! have abolished the sugar bowl and cus- j tomers are served one lump apiece. The coal shortage Is also causing concern. The real trouble, however, according to one of the largest coal companies Is that there is an unequal distribution on the part of wholesalers and retailers, which has enabled some dealers and customers to lay in larger supplies than are actually needed. It was said by this company that New York city's supply of coal exceeds last year's by 229,000 tons. CHICAGO MAY GET RELIEF CHICAGO, Oct 19. A nation wide shortage of sugar which threatens to curtail the supply of candy for the Christmas holidays, will be iess felt in Chicago than elsewhere, according to wholesalers. The promise of relief for Chicago, it was stated tndav la tha

Chicago dealers expect to have shipments of the new sugar within ten days but many sections of the country, will get none of the new crop, it is said for 60 days or more.

Trustees of Church Break Precedent of Over Two Centuries

'NEW YORK, Oct 19. In consenting to hold a special assembly of Jews In America on Oct. 28, at the Spanish and Portuguese synogogue at which plans for raising a $10,000,000 war relief fund will be completed, the trustees of the congregation broke a precedent of 250 years. This synagogue has the distinction of being the oldest in America and never before in its long history has the edifice been used for any except religious purposes. Unlike other meetings, which have been held by the Jews to discuss war relief, there will be no collections or money solicited at the assembly, which is to be solely for the purpose of planning for the future.

Penitential Psalms. The term "penitential psalms" is applied to a group of seven psalms on account of the marked penitence they show. They are the Sixth, the Thirtysecond, the Thirty-eighth, the Fiftyfirst, the One Hundred and Second, the One Hundred and Thirtieth and the One Hundred and Forty-third. The distinction of these from other psalms began in the early Christian times.

SEES SETTLEMENT OF STRIKE OF 70,000J,1INERS President of Illinois Federa- . tion Believes Strikers See Futility of Efforts. CHICAGO, Oct 19. Hope for the early settlement of the unauthorized strike of nearly 70,000 coal mlnere in Illinois, was held out today by Frank Farrlngton, president of the Illinois Federation of Miners, who said the men are beginning to release the futility of trying to force Dr. Harry A. Garfield, national fuel administrator to grant increased prices of coal at the mines. Mr. Farrlngton is to meet Pit committees of the miners in Springfield today and in a telegram to Dr. Garfield he expressed the hope that the men

would be back at work by next Monday. In the meantime, word was awaited from Washington for a decision by the national fuel administrator on the request of operators to raise the price of coal at the mines upon which depends an increase in the wages of the miners. During the four days the miners have been on strike, a shortage of nearly 1,200,000 tons has been created which will be felt according to dealers as soon as present stores are exhausted. While federal Administrators and union mine officials were redoubling their efforts to get the men back into the mines, hospitals and charitable institutions of this city are said to be facing a serious shortage. J. P. White, president of the United Mine Workers of America and advisor of the national fuel administrator, has gone to his headquarters at Indianapolis in an attempt to induce the miners in Indiana and Ohio as well as Illinois to resume work.

LONDON. Oct 18. (DAUGHTER FOUND

REMEDY THAT SAVED HER MOTHER Suffered TerriWy But Did Not Wan to Submit to an Operation. Mrs. Mary K. Peroutka, R. F. D. No. L Box 41. MUladore, Wise, is a firm believer In Frnitola and Traxo. She writes: "I wish I could tell everybody how much Fmltola and Traxo has done for our family. Both my husband and I were cured of gall stones, and in such a short time and at such little cost and Frnitola is so easy to take. Four years I suffered those terrible

spells and at last the doctor said I had gall stones and advised an operation. I said if the doctors were in the house when I had one of those spells I might !et them operate, but not otherwise. My daughter wrote, to a lady who had been cured of gall stones without an operation and who recommended Fruitola, I took only one bottle and have not been bothered since. Mt

husband had stomach trouble and he used Fruitola, too. with most satisfactory results." Fruitola and Traxo are compounded from the original Edsall formulas at the Pinus laboratories in Monticello, Ills., and can be purchased In drug stores; a doctor's prescription is not necessary. Fruitola is a pure fruit oil that acts as an intestinal lubricant and disintegrates the hardened particles that cause bo much suffering, discharging the accumulated waste to the sufferer's intense relief. One dose is usually sufficient to indicate its efficacy. Traxo is a tonic-alterative that Is most effective to rebuild and restore the weakened, run-down system. A booklet of special interest to those who suffer with stomach trouble can be obtained by writing to the Pinus Laboratories, Monticello, Illinois.
