French styles are the keynote of fashioning in both men's suits and overcoats. In fact, the "Trench" is it. The Trench Overcoat is made rather loose, falling in straight lines from the shoulder to a little below the knee with a loose, full belt and an inverted pleat down the back. This Trench coat is a distinct style development of the season. The inverted pleat or the pinch back is featured in practically every novelty coat for this winter. Full
draped back coats without belts are sparsely shown and a few Ulsterettes, but these largely for motorists or men with special preference for this class of garment. All these overcoats are made of extremely heavy fabric and are shown in either solid colors, large blocked patterns or small mixtures. Few stripes or plaids are noted. ' The colors are of the darker and richer shades, such as browns, greens, steel grey, burgundy, chocolate and myrtle.
The Trench coat influence is also shown in the newest development of the sack suit. These are also made with the belt clear around similar to the overcoats and many have the tunnel belt effect at the side seams so the belt can be buttoned at front underneath the coat. The backs are pinch back, shirred backs or inverted pleat back. . Novelty details are profuse and unique on the more extreme models. These are demonstrated mostly on pockets and cuffs and are so varied that a detailed de
scription would be futile in the space allotted to this article. . Lapels are shorter and wider than last season and come to an acute point or a slightly rounded peak. More double-breasted styles are shown than have been seen for recent seasons. Vests are, for the most part, collarless, buttoned high with a decided cut-away at the bottom. The trousers are made along rather straight lines with cuff bottoms.
