ARMENIAN TO SPEAK HERE

Work in the relief of the starving

people of the Bible lands, and of the

destitution in that country will be ex

plained by Prof. M .G. Papazian. in a lecture to be given at the Commerc-

ian club rooms next Tuesday evenin at 7:30 o'clock.

Prof. Papazian, who is a native of

Armenia, is a graduate of Yale uni

versity and is in close touch "With the

situation in Asia Minor, where millions of people are in destitute circumstances as a result of the activities of

the Turkish armed forces.

According to the latest official

statement of the American committ

tee for Armenian and Syrian relief, there are 2,140,0000 people in western Asia, including 400,000 orphans, who

are facing starvation. The average cost for maintenance of these people

Is about $5 a month. From October 1915, until September 1 of this year, $4,255,420.60 has been contributed for the relief of these people and millions of dollars more are needed. An appeal for aid in this country will be made by Prof. Papazian. The committee in charge of the meeting is composed of Rev. Mead, A. Kelsey, Rev. F. W. Rohlfing, Dr. M. F. Johnston, and Rev. R. D. Baldwin. Mr. Kelsey is secretary of the state committee. V

Employers Requested to Comply With Law The Richmond Board of Education, with K. V. Carman, head of the vocational department at the high school as agent, sent out cards to manufacturers and merchants Thursday as follows: "To Richmond Employers. "Gentlemen It is unlawful to employ a child under 14 years old, or a child between 14 and 16 years of age who has not completed the fifth grade in school, or a child between . 14 and 16 for whom an employment certificate has not been secured. "The child labor law of Indiana (R.

S. 1914, S6676) places the responsibility upon the employer for any violation of these provisions and not upon the parents of the children. "Your co-operation with the Richmond schools in the enforcement of this law will be greatly appreciated."

L. E. Harris, an employe in the Census Office, Washington, has offered to the government a new style and is light and watertight. Mr. Harris uses

these shoes to work about his garden.

PROTECTORS TO CONVENE HERE

Richmond has landed the 1918 convention of the National Horse Thief Protective association. The convention will be held the Irst week of October. It was landed through the efforts of the Commercial club. , Telegrams were sent to Franklin Wednesday by Secretary Albus, a member of the association, urging the men to come here next year. There were 600 members in attendance at the Franklin convention Wednesday. Secretary Albus says 1,000 members probably will attend the convention next year on account of the convenience of the meeting place.

Discharge Three W ayne Men at Camp

Roy Dye, who was selected for the national army and sent to Camp Taylor, will soon return to his home in Richmond, according to word received from Camp Zachary Taylor. . Dye, who was a fireman at No. 2 hose house, has been discharged because of physical disability. He is married. Jerome Day of Hagerstown. who was also in camp, will soon arrive at Lis home as he also has been discharged for physical reasons. Karl Karcher of Richmond, has already returned from the camp, having bopn discharged because of physical deficiency.

MURRAY A situation as old as the hills, yet differing always in its detail from any other and with a human appeal as wide as that of mother nature herself

is the part of Fannie Ward's latest Paramount picture. "On The Level," in which a frantic mother pleads with the girl her son has chosen, to give him up. Attempting to "buy her off," the mother is met with a firm but gentle refusal and the girl, seemingly dazed and bruised by the sudden upheavel of her little world, finally, of her own accord, sacrifices her happiness on the altar of her lover's success as is usually the case. "On The Level" is now being shown at the Murray theatre. MURRETTE Winsome Vivian Martin, at present co-starring with Sessue Hayakawa, the noted Japanese actor in the Paramount picture, "Forbidden Paths," at the Murrette theatre, was more than

delighted at her experiences in filming the production. It is the story of a love affair between a Japanese artist and a young American girl. The former realizes his case is hopeless on

account of the difference in race, but

stands by his colors, finally sacrific

ing even life and honor for her happi

ness. Many of the scenes were taken

in a great house leased especially for

the purpose where was found a notable collection of rare Japanese prints,

embroideries and vases.

Entre Nous Clubmen Entertain "75'.' 'Who Go to Camp Friday

The Entre Nous club Wednesday night entertained for the seventy-five men who leave for Camp Taylor Friday. Members of the conscription board, city and county officials were present.

Three members of the club, Carl Maier, George Hill and Ernest Land-

wehr, were presented with military wrist watches, gifts of the members.

Speeches were made by Sheriff Carr, County Clerk Kelly, Mayor Robbins, Chief of Police McNally and Walter Lichtenfels, president of the club. W. F. Hoelscher replied in behalf of the selected men.

Continued From Page One. taken care of than the men who arrived first. The first men had to "set up their own ticks," but now men are detailed for this work and beds are ready for those who will arrive. Story is Untrue. Sergeant Fry says that he has heard from Richmond that there is a rumor current that . Ora Hughbanks was "confined" to the guard house. This is untrue according to Fry,: who says that none of the men "have been or expect to be" in the guard house.

Here is a complete list of appointments of Wayne county men. Ollie Otten le ' battalion supply sergeant and Lawrence Jessup, mess sergeant; Russel Joy is company supply sergeant and Jack x Wilson has been made a corporal and relieved of cook duty. Clem McConaha has been transferred to brigade headquarters with the rank of sergeant. Jim Palsgrove is Bupply sergeant for the 66th commany. All of the men have sore arms now, Sergeant Fry says, as the result of the second inoculation to prevent typhoid fever. Three "shots" in the arm are given for typhoid and three for paratyphoid, each one given ten days apart. .

One of each three , "shots" usually make the soldiers a "little" sick" for a day or two but It isn't serious. ''Fatty" Lakamp fainted, however, as did some of the others. "We are all anxious for the next bunch to get here as It will add more pep," Sergeant Fry ends his letter.
