Thirty-two percent of foreign-born employe of the Pennsylvania rail
road subscribed to the first Liberty Loan, according to a statement Issued
by that railroad.
In making the investigation It was 'earned there are men of forty-two
nationalities employed on the Penney!
vania railroad. Members of 30 alien races were Included among the buyers
ef Liberty Bonds. . The Italian race furnishes the larg
est number of foreign-born employes, the number being about one-third of
all the alien born. About 32 percent
of the Italians bought Liberty Bonds
Forty-three percent of the Irish
born employes subscribed to the Loan. Thirty-six percent of the English born
and thirty-six percent of the Russian and Polish born employes Invested in
Liberty Bonds. Germans Bought Too The statement shows the interest
ing fact that 32 percent of employes of German birth were subscribers to
the Liberty Loan.
Two Japanese and two Chinese were found to be in service but none were recorded as subscribing to the
loan.
Other buyers of the bonds Included such diverse nationalities as Swedes, Slavs, Spaniards, Bohemians, Swiss, Roumanians. Norwegians, Hollanders,
Danes, Cubans. Finns. Greeks. Aus
tralians. Portugese. Serbs, Syrians
South Americans. West Indians, Ar
abs, Armenians. Persians, Africans, Ukrania. Costa Ricans and Croats.
The inquiry brought about the fact
that since the fall of 1914, tne fenn-

returning to their native country for military service, or have taken posi
tions at higher wages brought about by economic conditions caused, by the
war.
