Recommendations of Peace Committee Call for Careful Study.
Five recommendations were made
to the Indiana Yearly Meetlne nf
Friends, In the report of the peace
committee, or wMcb Prof. Allen D. Hole, of Earlham college. Is chairman. The recommendations follow : "1. That FriendB should take time . for careful thought In regard tn thn
fundamental reasons for "our historic
position with respect to war. We particularly ask that Friends examine the question so thoroughly-that all of our members may be. able to explain the great positive grounds upon which our beliefs rest. "2. That the essentials of the question of universal compulsory military training be so well understood by all Friends in the immediate future that we shall be prepared in advance for the campaign which will undoubtedly be made soon aftef the war closes for the adoption of such a policy. Watch Church Activity "S. That all Friends keep themselves informed through The American Friend and otherwise as to the work which lsTbeing done by the general secretary of the Five Years Meeting, and respond promptly and freely in carrying out the Dlans formulated
by the central office, and by the American Friend's service committee. "4. That subordinate meetings consider carefully their duty with' respect to young men who may go or may be taken to the mobilization camps. Whether our young men go voluntarily to take up service in the army, or go under protest refusing to become a part of the military arm of the government, they need assurance of our interest-in them, and our readiness to be of any assistance possible. Meetings willing to assist in the visitation work which may be done to advantage and in other ways which may open, should consult with the committee appointed by, the permanent board for this service and co-operate with them as closely as possible. "Walk Close to Father" "5. That we all give ourselves much to prayer to the end that we may find the wise way in which to nil the responsible place in which we find ourselves, and that we may walk so close

Hugh Ridlon, son of a Chicago

leg ought to stop, anyone from fighting in the war against Germany. Rid-
lon's leg was broken when his airplalne fell on a European aviation field but as soon as his injury heals he intends to re-enter the airplane service. "
to our "Father in thi3 hour of peculiar trial that is upon our land that we may In very truth show forth the spirit of the Master in whatever place He may call us to serve." The committee asked an appropriation of $liO from the Meeting, which request was referred to the finance committee. .
