Contracts to Be Advertised for This Fall Other Boston Notes. , BOSTON, Ind.. Sept. 13. A $100,000 railroad shops, twelve stall round house, a modern power plant with accessories for repairs on cars and engines, and a new coal tipple, are included in the plans and specifications passed by the building committee of the C. & O, to be erected at Boston. General Manager Darbyshire, who was in Boston two weeks ago, has assured the banking and mercantile interests of the town that ths buildings which had held fire some years, would be built, and that the contract would be advertised this fall. The appropriation was passed some time ago. The necessity for more thorough handling of the freight service on this division, both local and through, the preparations necessary for cantonments and army service, as well as the increase in grain, lumber, and iron shipments are reasons why the centralization of the shops and roundhouse at Boston must be put through. The old shanties used for housing crews on the runs are to be dismantled and sold. The Fitzgerald people, with Manager D. S. Wetzel, have about completed the new $35,000 hotel for crews at Boston. At the present moment the store is handling about $4,000 worth of supplies, and about 52 men are fed at the restaurant daily.
The new hotel consists of 52 rooms
all steam heated, and with hot and cold water: bath rooms with showers; a
spacious lobby finished in mission wood, with vitrollte tables; a dining
room in mission finish and vitrollte fittings; store and supply rooms in connection. The steam heating is by gravity with 72 radiators, two boilers,
a storage tank of 360 gallons capacity,
and there is also a modern range with steam tables.
J. West Poindexter of Richmond, Is
the architect and the outside veranda, park and pool is not among the least of his beautiful designs. Miller-Kemper are builders; the plumbing and heating is by John H. Niewoehner, the painting by James Logan, and the plastering by John Schroeder. The Crane company furnished the electrical work. W. A. Rinehart, yard master, is a busy man nowadays. The Increase in
freight business, and the handling of
the extra crews takes up a deal or nis time in the yards. Among the plans for improvements here by the company are enlargement of the yards so that more extra crews and engines can be handled. Among the men who have been examined from tjie C. & O. at Boston are Car Inspector Claud Ballinger, and Switchman B. J. Audenkamp. The toys are awaiting orders from headquarters and expect to leave for a training camp at any moment. General Foreman James Beck of the round house reported yesterday that business had been on the increase and that the machinists had all that they could do.
All the tanks, offices, and freight houses will be painted this fall. The offices at Richmond are also under the hands of the company painters. Bob Holder, the happy go lucky C. & O. engineer, is building a new one story house at Boston, bungalow style. The concrete foundations have been started. District Boiler Inspector J. P. Kane of Indianapolis, was on a tour of business in Boston, Wednesday, and from there took up business in the Richmond yards. Among the new improvements in the yards at Boston a new turn table for the engines is to be installed.

And many other big values in the Dry Goods Department
My entire stock b now being slaughtered and sold at the lowest prices ever offered in Richmond. Just 2 years ago I bought The Railroad Store and have built up a wonderful following in so short a time. Now I may be compelled to give up all, as I have been passed and accepted for the new National army, and may be called at any time. For this reason I have decided to reduce my stock as much at possible. The big Conscription Sale opened like a whirlwind yesterday. Hundreds of people packed and jammed the store all day and while I have had many successful sales, this one broke all records for the first day. I am positively offering the best bargains of my career and I trust you will come and avail yourself of the savings for this may be my last sale. Read some of the prices quoted here, then job the crowds and come at once. Only 14 more days. t f Sidney Rose, Prop. The New Railroad Store
