ECONOMY TO HAVE SCHOOL ORCHESTRA

$ The S. S. Westwego, an American merchant ship, which reported to the

Navy Department at Washington a battle at sea with six German submarines. The fight took place when a fleet of armed merchant yessels, of which the Westwego w as one, was attacked by the submersibles. It is believed that all. six of the U-boats were sunk.

ECONOMY, Ind., Sept 13. The Kconomy high school isn't going to be a back number in the musical world, for an orchestra has been organized with the following as players: First violins, Carrie Cranor and Ruth Jackson; second violin, Kenneth Cain; first cornets, Willard Jordan and Mary Weldy; first clarinet, Benjamin Franklin; trombone, Paul Weldy; piano, Carol Weldy; drums, Harold Fouts; director, Mary H. Ballenger. The members met Tuesday evening after school closed and practiced on a few selections with success. Mrs. Ora Ilaxton is back from Colorado and Illinois where she spent several weeks.

Billy McCann was touring the eastern part of Perry township and Green Tuesday. Will Johnson, Carlos City, was here Tuesday on special business. Harry Thornburg and family, West River, were here first of week. William Lamb, a veteran of the Civil war, is very poorly. Frank Taylor, a traveling salesman of Muncie was calling on his friend, J. C. Ilaxton, Wednesday. Johnny Bowman spent Tuesday night with his family. Junk men from Richmond, were

here Tuesday gathering up bones, rags, paper, iron, rubber and copper. Julian Edwards, the Modoc trader, was at Richmond and here today. Howard Parker, Carlos City, works occasionally in Charley Harris' barber shop. The carpenter work on the Tom Cain barn addition is nearly done. - Ed Stanton and family were visiting Centervjlle relatives recently. Dock Smalley, Liberty, was due here Tuesday night but failed to arrive.
