TWO CRIMINALS BELIED NICHOLAS AND WAR STARTED GERMAN CHANCELLOR

Trial of Russian War Minister Shows That Russia Was Responsible.

AMSTERDAM, Sept. 6. In an interview with a representative of the press the German chancellor, Dr. George Mlchaelis has made a statement in regard to disclosures at the trial in Petrograd for high treason of General Soukhomlinoff, former minister of war. Great prominence has been given In the German press recently to testimony said to have been taken at the Soukhomlinoff trial tending to show

Russia' responsibility for the beginning of the war. Accounts of the trial reaching this country have not sontained such testimony. Chancellor Mlchaelis said: Says Germany's Guilt Destroyed "The statements of the former Russian war minister and the former chief of the general staff, (General Januschkevitch) are of the greatest importance. They are calculated completely to destroy the legend of Germany's guilt in starting the war and

they will force European opinion, if the reports are allowed to be published abroad, to revise its judgment on Germany. "The moment at which these disclosures were made is more favorable as we have Just had knowledge of the American reply to the pope's note urging peace. In secretary Lansing's answer the German government is described as an irresponsible government which secretly planned to dominate the world, which chose its own time for the war and cruelly and suddenly executed its plan; which did not heed legal barriers or truthfulness, which flooded a great continent with blood, not only of soldiers, but of Innocent women and children, the helpless and the poor. When adopting these accusations from the entente factory of calunies the American government obviously had no knowledge of the course of the proceedings against Gen. Soukhomlinoff. Otherwise Its judgment would certainly have been quite different, Dr. Mlchaelis said further, "that it was not Germany which chose the

time for the war, but the military party surrounding the czar, who was under the influence of France and England. Wanted Peace, He Says. "It is well known that the German emperor, who before the war clearly and on every occasion expressed his own desire and that of the German people for peace, especially regarding Russia, was surprised by the events which occurred during his pleasure trip in Scandinavian waters. Up to the last moment, in the exchange of telegrams with the emperor of Russia and the king of England,

he made the most earnest and fervent attempts in the interest of peace. Criminals Caused It. "The Importance of the new disclosures is that the czar, who had to decide as to war or peace, in fact came to the conviction, from the German emperor's efforts, that Germany did not desire war. The consequence of this conviction' was his positive order to cancel the Russian mobilization but a couple of criminals who belied the czar, disregarded the order and thwarted its execution. A consequence of the emperor's efforts also was the czar's order to Gen. Janu

schkevitch to give the German ambassador, Count Von Pourtales, assurances of Russia's desire for peace."

Hair Often Ruined By Washing With Soap 1

, Soap should be used very carefully, if you want to keep your hair looking its best. Most soaps and prepared shampoos contain too much alkali. This dries the scalp, makes the hair brittle, and ruins it. The bcrt thing for steady use is just ordinary mulsificd cocoanut o'.'. (whf h is pure and greaseless), and is better than the most expensive soap or anything else you can use. One or two teaspoonfuls --'111 cleanse the hair and scalp thoroughly. Simply moisten the hair with water and rub ft in. It makes an abundance of rich, creamy lather, which rinses out easily, removing every particle of dus dirt, dandruff and excessive oil. The hair dries quickly and evenly, and it leaves the scalp soft, and the hiir fine and silky, bright, lustrous, fluffy and easy to manage. You can get mulsified cocoanut oil at any pharmacy, it's very cheap, and a few ounces will supply every member of the family fc- months. Adv.

People of means have always taken to Fatimas in spite of the" low price. One proof of this is Fatima's popularity at the big Automobile Shows, both in the East and West. Even at the Chicago and New York Shows last January Fatimas outsold all other cigarettes, There's a mighty good reason for this big leadership: Fatima's Turkish blend gives more than fine flavor alone, more than comfort to throat and tongue Fatimas never disturb even though you may smoke all day long. ' You 11 find Fatimas sensible as sure as you try a package.
