RECORD CORN CROP SEEN ON 'CHANGE
CHICAGO. Aug. 7. General rains gave the bears an advantage today in the corn market. Predictions were current that owing to the favorable conditions of late the yield this season would be 100,000,000 but in excess of any previous record. Offerings, however, were not as large as most traders had expected, and a rally ensued. Opening prices, which ranged from l-4c to 5-8c lower, with December at $1.16 to $1.16 1-4 and May at $1.13 to $1.13 1-4, were followed by a slight additional setback and then a reaction to a little above yesterday's finish. Increased arrivals of new wheat had a bearish effect on that cereals. After opening unchanged to $2.25 September the market receded to $2.24. Oats were depressed by forecasts that the government crop report would show 500,000,000 but more in prospect this season than was the case a year ago. Later, however, when corn made an upturn, oats did likewise. Provisions ascended with hogs, but the bulge brought about much realizing, and the grains were not held.
