CHICAGO; July 13. The fixing of a maximum price of $1.28 a bushel for the December (1917) and the May (1918) options for corn was regarded by members of the Chicago board of trade today as practically- putting a stop , to speculation - In - the new crop of that grain. The board of directors who met after the close of the market yesterday made no formal announcement of the reasons for the action, but an official of the board, said the establishment of . a maximum price for December and - later options seemed necessary to bring trading conditions into harmony with the government's war'policy of preventing undue speculation and unwarranted high prices to consumers. The maximum price , of $1.63 a bushel for the September option which was flxed by the board some time ago, was not disturbed by the action

of yesterday as the value of old corn for immediate delivery is now much In excess of that limit, ordinarily number 2 white touching $194 a bushel, the highest price ever known in Chicago.

LAUNCH ON WHEELS SEEN IN RICHMOND THURSDAY

A launch floating on four wheels attracted considerable attention in Richmond Wednesday night and Thursday. An automobile made In the shape of a launch, driven by E. C. Maddln, came here enroute from from St. Louis to New York. A large anchor in front, took the place of the bumper. In the back there was a large silver oar. On the top of the back end of the launch, a large electric 'light shown on a silk American flag. . Nothing was missing on the launch,

the rudder, brass gunwale around the sides, and all the parts were seen. The whole affair was advertising a soft drink "
