T. M. C. A. CAMP. 6, 19. 'IT. To the Palladium All the boys in camp fool very tortunate that they are alive today. Last night about 9 o'clock the camp was captured by a band ot ruffians. All the camp wu In excitement when the bandits slipped into camp and left a black-hand note as follows: "To the Roughneck campers from Richmond. "Warning: "Unless you young ruffians cut out your noise and holleiin around that camp so much we're comin' over and run you out You're all a bunch of lioodelins without brains and you all will have to pack up and leave camp by Monday night or our gang will capture the whole bunch." "Bud" Morgan was elected general of the defense and carefully placed bis men on guard with order to "do or die" In defense of the camp. After lying in ambush for about an hour strange noises could be heard in the underbrush and dark forms skulking about through the dense woodland. States with the object of getting orders
for ships. They can build them at half
the cost, and with designs drawn by
Americans, can build them faster than United States can furnish the men to man them.
Uncle Sam Has Job at $5,000 Yearly For Qualified Executive . The postoffice has received bulletins saying that scores of highly paid government positions are to be filled in the next month or two by examinations to be taken at any time. Included in the list are positions as superintendent of small-arms ammunition at Frankfort Arsenal at Philadelphia, paying a salary of $5,000 a year, assistant superintendents of artillery, small arms, and brass cartridge ammunition, paying from $2,400 to $3,000 a year and superintendent of leather inspection at $3,000. The unusual method of filling these important positions is taken because of urgent need for persons to fill them. No mental examination is required, the places being filled upon experience and ability shown by applicant's papers. ' Beside these positions, examinations sre to be conducted in Richmond throughout July for clerks, stenographers and others.

Alkali Makes Soap Bad for Washing Hair
Most soaps and prepared shampoos contain too much alkai, which is very injurious, as it dries the scalp and makes the hair brittle. Wayne county was awarded a second top notch record for the year in the session of the State Sunday School association here yesterday, and was given a banner to cross with the Americon flags awarded last year. . Plasterers Refuse to Work For "Neutral"
FORT WAYNE, Ind., Jane 21. A dozen members of the plasterers local union quit work today on a large church here, refusing to work, longer for Fred Buesebing, the contractor, charging that he Is not naturalised citizen. Burning of U -Boat Chaser is Probed
HULL. Mass., June 21. The eubmarlne chaser S-P-65. formerly the Gypsy, a forty-foot power boat, was burned to the' water's edge on Stony Beach last night. Ensign A, J. McKenzie, commander of the craft, and a crew of six men were taken off by coast guardsmen and the ammunition aboard was removed before the flames reached it Naval authorities sre conducting an investigation.
