VALLEY FORGE, Pa.. June " 19 Marking the ' site of the encampment of Washington and his army during the winter of 1777-78 a memorial arch for which congress appropriated 1125,000, was presented to the state today by Chantp Clark, speaker of the house of representatives, on behalf of the government. More than a hundred senators and congressmen who came her by special train from Washington, attended the exercises. ... Governor Brumbaugh . accepted the

arch on behalf of the commonwealth, the transfer being attended with' the

firing of a salute by Battery C, National Guard of Pennsylvania.

The Sons of the Revolution formed about the arch as a guard of honor, ob

serving their annual celebration in conjunction with the exercises. Patriotic exercises incident to the presentation were under the auspices of the Valley .Forge Park Commission and were presided over by William Henry Sayen, president of the commission. . Arch it Marble Structure The arch Is an imposing structure of marble. ' Champ Clark paid tribute to Washington's headquarters in the winter of 1777-78 as "the most famous encampment on the surface of the globe." He eulogized George . Washington, praised free government and declared congress is doing its whole duty toward bringing the- present 'war to a speedy and triumphant conclusion. "We stand today on a ground hallowed by the unspeakable sufferings of as true a band of patriots as ever lived," said Speaker Clark. "It re

ical men on all the allied fronts and in Eugland itself, was issued here to

day by Colonel' Ci H. Goodwin, medical officer -with , the British 'mission to the United States, who is touring the country - to inspire the volunteering of - medical men for service abroad. Colonel Goodwin seeks medical men in addition to the 20,000 required by the new American army. "It isn't so much that allied medical officers have disappeared that causes the shortage, but the great increase in the demand for them to take care of 5,000,000 on. five fronts," Colonel Goodwin said. ' ' "More than 300.000 hospital . beds ore being maintained in the British Isles alone; there are 27,000 beds in

Malta, and many - thousand more in

Salonica, Egypt, Mesopotamia, India,

and of course in France. In some districts in England, Colonel Goodwin ssld the ratio is one physician to 6,000 inhabitants. ' -

Peru Lads to Ask Railroads to Install

Earl Young, 16 years old, and Carter Maymire, 15, both' of Peru, Ind.,

are to ask, the C. & O. railroad management to have "Big Bens" installed in all vacant freight cars. . The two boys left their home last night in, a -"side-door .pullman," Intending to go to Marion, Ind. In search of work. They found a pile of straw in one corner of the car and decided to take a nap. When they awakened they were pulled out cf their car near the local passenger station and were taken to police headquarters. Their -parents were notified and they are to be returned to Peru this evening.
