Deaths and Funerals. LYBARGER Mrs. Mary Lybarger, 74 years old, died suddenly last evening at her home i n Easthaven ave. Hemorrhage of the lungs was the cause of death. Mrs. Lybarger leaves four sons and one daughter, all of this city. The funeral will be at 10:30 Monday morning, from the home, and burial will be in Earlham cemetery. Friends may call at any time.

LOSES EYE IN FIGHT

STARR FACTORY MAY GET ORDER FOR WAR WORK Fred Gennett Goes to Washington to See About Balloon Contracts.

Fred Gennett, secretary of the Starr Piano company, Is in Washington consulting with the war . department in regard to a contract for the manufacture of balloons to be used by the army for observation purposes. If the equipment of the factory is adapted to the manufacture of balloons or can be adapted to such work without great difficulty, the company intends to make a determined effort to get the balloon-making contract. Fred to Report. Henry Gennett, president of the company, said today he expected Fred Gennett would return from Washington tomorrow night and report on

whether the company could take over

the contract.

President Gennett states that in the

WAR DEPARTMENT TO MAKE SURVEY OF PLANT WASHINGTON, June 16. -The war department will make a survey of the factory of the Starr Piano Company at Richmond, Ind., for the purpose of determining whether it can readily be transformed into a government balloon factory. - Lieutenant-Colonel Charles Chandler, of the signal corps, has .. been ordered to Richmond to make an inspection of the plant.

JAPAN AND ENGLAND REFUSE TO JOIN U. S. IN NOTE TO CHINESE

WASHINGTON. June 16. Japan has taken action similar to Great Britain in refusing to associate herself in the American action urging the rival factions in China to compose their differences, it was said today at the state department. No reason was given for the action of either nation, but it is assumed that neither felt that the American action would be successful.
