OBITUARY Edmund F. Chandler was the son of the late Robert and Elizabeth Wilson Chandler, was born in the itate of Delaware, June 9, 1S32. His parents moved to Dayton, Ohio, when he was one year old and at the age of four, they moved to Wayne county, Indiana, where he has lived ever since in this immediate neighborhood. His occupation was, farming. He was the last of four children. He was united In marriage in 1857 to Ann Wright, who departed this life Dec. 15, 1832. In 1894 he married Margaret E. Davison. To this union was born one eon, Hugh Wright, who with his mother are left and will feel the loss of a loving husband and father. Although Mr. Chandler was not identified with any church, he was a great reader of the scriptures and had a wonderful memory. He had been confined to his home the past winter and passed peacefully away, the 22nd of May. 1917, at the age of S4 years. 11 months and 13 days. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. Murray of the Christian church. Richmond, from the home at 2 o'clock. Friday afternoon. He spoke from Psam 90. 91, 46. 1 Corinthians 15. One Victrola number was given, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," always a favorite of Mr. Chandler. Charles Miles sang a solo. "Looking This Way." The pall bearers, all old neighbors and friends, were: Frank Edwards, J. W. Turner, Henry Puthoff. Frank Murley. Fred Bullerdick. Sbljh Pyle. Several beautiful floral offerings were sent by Mr. Whelan's employes, the neighborhood. Mrs. Maud Brees, Mrs. Mona Newland and Mrs. Fletcher Elliott, for which the family wishes to thank them one and all. The language of flowers are always beautiful and at this time especially bo. Also we wish to thank the neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted in the time of need to Mr. Kesler of New Paris. Mr. Welfer of Centerville, funeral directors. We wish to extend thanks for their courteous treatment. Many nieces and

nephews of Mr. Chandler residing m distant states was unable to be present. Like a ripe sheaf fully gowned he was laid to rest in Spring Lawn cemetery by the side of his wife.

The distinction of being a United States marine for thirty years belongt to Gunnery Sergeant John Shea, who has just been "read out" of the service on account of old age. When a man is "read out" his entire record from the date of his enlistment is publicly proclaimed by his commanding officer, and is one of the highest honors accorded an enlisted man. Shea served in the Nicaragua campaign, the Spanish-American war. Boxer campaign and at Vera Cruz. His-home is in Somerville, Mass., and the "reading out" occurred at Charlestown Navy Yard.
