blllC AGO PIT SETS MAXIMUM PRICE FOR DEALINGS IN CORN

CHICAGO. June 3. Maximum Irices on trading in futures of the two principal grain foous of the world will govern dealing in .wheat and corn when the Chicago board of trade opens tomorrow after the registration holt lay today. 'Tor a purely preventive reaon, a taaxlmum of $1.65 a bushel for dealings in corn was prescribed by directors of the board yesterday, three week after wild upturns In price had caused a similar action In regard to trading in wheat futures. "The action Is simply In support of the policy of President Wilson and his advisors, to prevent the- price of foodstuffs reaching an abnormally high level," said Joseph P. Griffin, president of the board. "While governments and consumers are liberal buyers of corn for present and future delivery, there is no indication that this buying has reached proportions that might result in unduly enchancing values." " , - ' July corn sold at $1,30 yesterday, an advance of 14c In a few days, while September touched $1.37., Discussing the action of . the board, trader pointed out that with stocks abronmally low. July shorts were in approximately the same position as had been the shorts in wheat, where a stampede would have resulted in big price advances. It was to forestall this, that the board set a maximum price.

JORDAN ELECTED TO SCHOOL BOARD

Charles W. Jordan last night was elected by the City Council to til the position of city school trustee made vacant by . the resignation of Miss Sarah Hill. Mr. Jordan has been a member of the school board before, having served for a long period which expired with the election of Pettis A. Reid two years ago. Miss Hill gave for her reason for resigning increasing business " demands. A copy of Miss Hill's resignation follows: ;, ?To the Mayor and City Council of "Richmond. - ?- "Gentlemen Very sincerely I thank each one of you for the courtesy and kindness extended during the 5 years I have served on the School Board ; I have greatly enjoyed the new movement in education which has gone for

ward in that time, especially along vocational lines, the more so, realizing Councils hearty support and appreciation, and my one regret is that I had not more time to give to it ' .... "Increasing demands made by our own business, and the fact that the finances of the schools will require increased attention, in these unsettled times, compel me to notify your body that I am not a candidate for reappointment; I regret greatly the severing of my relations with the schools, for our Board and Superintendent Giles have been able to agree upon all important policies, and I can truly say that the work has been not only of absorbing interest, but a heartfelt joy to each of us in carrying" It.' forward harmoniously together. "Yours sincerely, "SARAH A. HILL,."
