Marked by its . artistic decorations t a patriotic nature was the beautiful luncheon given today at 1 o'clock at the Country club by Mrs. John H. Klcholsoa and her daughter, Miss Helin Nicholson, as a courtesy to Mrs. . Edmund Hiatt of Ray, Arizona,, who Is a guest at the Nicholson home. Red, white and blue colors were used in all the appointments. Flowers were used eopiously on the table. Places were arranged for sixty guests. In the afttrnoon the time was spent in knitting Mid other Red Cross work. The out-tf-town guests were Mrs. Edwards of Peru. Ind.. Miss Wakefield of California, Miss Elizabeth Massey of BirmIngham. Alabama, and Mrs. Hiatt. Mrs. Edwards of Pern. Ind., who will be the guest of boner at the luncheon Saturday given by the Woman's Franchise league and who will ipeak Friday afternoon at the Joseph Moore school, arrived today to be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Elbert Shirk of the Keystone apartments. - The King's Daughters of the South Eighth Street Friends' church will meet Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock st the church to begin the relief work planned by the organization. All members are urged to be present. In honor of Miss Mary Hill, Miss . Margaret VanSant and Miss Anna Dafler, who are . graduating Friday evening ' from the High school, the members of their Sunday school class of the Reid Meomrial U. P. church entertained in a charming manner at the home of Miss Esther Wilson, West , Fifth street. The time was spent socially and with music and games. Refreshments were served. In the dining room white violets with ferns in addition to patriotic colors were used In decorating. The party was composed of Misses Catherine Williams, Louise Hon. Mary Dickson, Suzanne Dickson, Ruby Moore. .Margaret VanSant. Mary Hill, Anna Dafler, Esther Wilson, Esther Jones, Mesdames Elmer Magaw and George Ballinser. The Francis Willard W. C. T. U. will meet Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Pettis Reid, Wayne apartments. Mrs. J. Carey Smith of Burress, Ontario, a national lecturer will make an address. Lessons as outlined by the state W. C. T. U. in the study of preparation of women for voting on the new constitution will be a feature. Mrs. W. A. Ellis and Mrs. C. F. HoeCfer will be in charge.

One of the pleasant social functions of Memorial day was the informal auction-bridge party given by Mrs. J. A. Conkey at her apartments, East Main street, for Mrs. Eliot Sims of Indianapolis, and Mrs. J. H. Gilchrist of Chicago. All members of the Country club are invited to attend the supper party to be given at the Club Saturday evening. Reservations must be in as easly as possible. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hill entertained with a picnic last evening at the Oaar farm. There were fourteen guests. Later the party motored to this city and formed a theatre party.

CHICAGO, May 31. An unidentified man, lurking near a railroad bridge on the outskirts of Chicago, early today, was shot and killed by a private in an Illinois national guard regiment.
