HONOR PAID TO .DEAD HEROES IN V NEARBYTOWNS Henry U. Johnson and Will Reller Deliver Memorial Day Addresses. Citizens of practically all of the towns In the vicinity of Richmond honored the dead soldiers of the Civil war at Memorial day exercises yesterday. Speeches, parades and the decorating of the graves of the dead soldiers constituted the Memorial services In the majority of the towns, prominent men from Richmond and other towns in the state being the principal speakers at the meetings. M'BRIOE IS SPEAKER - CAMBRIDGE CITY, Ind., May -31 Judge Robert McBrlde. of Indianapolis, delivered the principal address at the Memorial day exercises here yesterday. Following the services at the Methodist church, a parade was formed to the cemetery where the graves of the dead veterans were decorated with flowers. GRAVES DECORATED LIBERTY. Ind., May 81. Memorial Day was observed here yesterday by the decoration of the graves of the dead soldiers and by exercises in the Btanley. Memorial institute. Rev. W. 6. Frazier, of Oxford, O., delivered the memorial address.

OFFICERS PERISH WHEN VESSEL IS BURNED AT SEA
First Mate and Boatswain Victims of Flames Which Devour Ship. ... HONOLULU, May . 31. Two members of the crew were killed when the steamship Hamaqua, carrying explosives, burned yesterday off the island of Maui of the . Hawaiian . group, according to word received here today. The vessel was a total loss.' v, George Nystrom, first officer was killed while directing the fight of the flames. The boatswain is missing and Is believed to have perished. v i Captain Wichert 6tated the fire was caused by " an explosion,, which blew off the hatches and caused the ship to be enveloped in flames almost immediately.The gasoline drums on the ship's deck exploded shortly after, making impossible a successful fight against the fire. Captain Wichert said the cause of the explosion was a mystery. The Hamakua, owned by the InterIsland Steamship Navigation company of Honolulu, was of 646 gross tons.
