GARFIELD MUSICIANS PRESENT FINE MUSIC AT FESTIVAL OPENING

Garfield junior high school gave the opening concert of the annua! Music festival at the Coliseum last night A chorus of 400 voices and an orchestra of 60 pieces furnished the program. The children, pupils of seventh and eighth grades, while very young disi played unusual musical ability. Their ability to follow the director, and keep their tones true, were noticaible characteristicsof the program. The boys' glee club sang two numbers. "The Minstrel Boy," and "Sailing." in a. very pleasing manner. , Roland. Hockett' scored quite a hit when he played a clarinet solo. "Playtime." His clearness of tone was heartily received by the audience, ,-.--Gave Two Selections A chorus of fifty girls gave two Belectidns. "June Tide" and. "Sabbath Morrt." Both numbers were well given a.d heartily received. - v J Marx Jones gave a violin solo, "Gavotte." op. 23, No. 2, a very heavy selection for an amateur. SEARCH IS MADE FOR DUZ HISTORY

MEXICO CITY. May 25. Earnest search is being made for the "Autoblgraphy of Porfirio Diaz," news of which has just come to light here. It is alleged that Diaz in 1892 completed a book covering his life experiences and administrations up to that time. This book, it is said he wished made public only after his death. Only 100 copies were struck off. The original manuscript was destroyed by Diaz it la said and the 100 copies placed in a chest and put away. -;.

STANDARD OIL ORDERED TO REMOVE 50 TANKS

MEXICO, CITY, May 25. The Standard Oil company has been ordered , by the department of Commerce and Industry to remove about fifty oil tanks erected in the Tampico field. These tanks the department declares

were erected without permission and were not erected according to govrnment standards. It is said the tanks cost approximately $500,000 to construct. . ' - . .
