WAR TO CONDENSE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR

' INDIANAPOLIS May 22. According to T. C. Howe, president of Butler College, the school year next year will be shorter and more condensed, on account of the " war. The fall term probably will not start until October and . continue , right through without vacations with the possible exceptions of a day at Thanksgiving and a week at Christmas. ,The term probably will end in May Instead of June. . The plan is to be adopted for the purpose of giving the male students more time to work on farms.

derstood that he would accept such a nomination if it were tendered to him. : Judge Will Sparks of Rushville, judge of the Rush circuit court and remembered here as the Jurist who prosided at the Hasemeier-Bentlage trial, has. been brought forward by several active Republican,, leaders in Wayne county, but when ' Judge Sparks was communicated with today he said that he had made no announcement of his candidacy. . In Rush county he has not been mentioned as a candidate. . His friends are hopeful that enough pressure can be brought to bear to induce him to seek the . Republican nomination. .. . ; ." .' There are now two aspirants for the Democratic nomination. . . Finly H. Gray of Connersville, who was defeated by Judge Comstock last fall, today announced his candidacy. State Senator Walter S. Chambers of Newcastle, Democratic district chairman, will contest with Gray for this nomination. Chambers '. in yesterday's issue of his paper, the Newcastle Times, stated that "the name of Walter S. Chambers has been mentioned, but he says he Is not a candidate, but will accept if the nomination comes to him without solicitation." , ' " Democrat Supports Chambers. : At the same time the Shelbyville Democrat, always an active supporter of Chambers, formally announced the

candidacy of Chambers and urged nis selection. It is probable Chambers will receive the Democratic nomination. He is the most influential Democrat in the district and has a strong following. v Elmer Bassett of Shelbyville, former Republican district chairman. Is an announced and a very active candidate for the Republican nomination. His candidacy is not expected to make much of an appeal in the eastern counties. Without their support his cause is a lost one. - Hancock county Republicans . ha v suggested Will Hough of Greenfield, and A. B. Ayres of Fortville, as available timber for the Republican nomination but neither man has entered the contest . , - . . Patrick J. Lynch' of Newcastle, who was the Republican nominee three years ago, being defeated .by Finly Gray, and who was defeated for renomination by Judge Comstock a year ago, said today he was a receptive but not an active candidate. . .-" - "People of the district know me, my virtues and my shortcomings. I have twice been a candidate. . If the delegates to the Republican convention decide that I am the man to make the contest I will accept the nomination. I will make no fight to secure this nomination," Mr. Lynch said. George Barnard, former mayor of
