CAUTIOUS TRADING BECOMES MANIFEST 111 WHEAT EXCHANGE

CHICAGO. May 18. Cautiousness afcout selling after such sharp declines as recently witnessed was manifest today in the wheat pit. ' It was- pointed

out by bullish traders that premiums

for cash wheat, that is wheat for immediate delivery, bad shown a tendency to harden and that stocks at Minneapolis had decseased 820.000 bushels for the week, as against 60,000 bushels falling off a year ago. Forced restriction of buying of future deliveries, however, continued to exercise a bearish influence la the option pit Opening prices of futures ranged from 2 to 4c lower with' July at $2.15 to $2.17 and Sept. at $1.96 to. $1.97. There was a slight further subsequent set back but then a moderate rally. Seasonable weather had only a transient bearish effect on the corn. Reports of car scarcity and of urgent domestic and foreign demand for corn products soon led to gains all around. After opening ?4 to 2c lower the market rallied to well above yesterday's finish. Oats showed independent strength on account of seaboard advices of a liberal export inquiry. Genera) business here was about as active as under normal conditions. Steadiness of the hog market upheld

provisions. Changes in ' quotations were slight but mainly upward.
