TAFT'S SON ENLISTS AS REGULAR PRIVATE
WASHINGTON. Mar 14. Charles P. Taft, the nineteen-year-old eon of former President Taft, has enlisted as a private in the artillery. Taft Is under legal age and it was necessary for him to obtain consent of his parents. Robert Taft, another son of the former President, .failed to obtain admission to the army on account of his eyesight.
PETROGRAD DENIES STORY OF RIOTING PETROGRAD, (via London), May 14 Exaggerated stories of anarchistic conditions at Schlusselburg, 21 miles east of Petrograd, including the report that the district committee had broken away from the temporary government and declared Schlusselburg an autonomous community, are denied by the chairman of the executive committee of the district committee, M. Commission Reviews Railroads9 Appeal WASHINGTON, May 14. The railroads' case in their appeal for a general 15 percent advance in freight rates today was in the hands of the interstate commerce commission for review. The roads completed their presentation late yesterday with testimony of western roads in the commission's hearings.

CONSTANTINOPLE, (via London), May 14.' After a period of inactivity the British force which has invaded Palestine is becoming more active, the war office announces. The statement follows: "At Gaza great activity was observed behind the enemy's front on Tuesday evening and positions in the neighborhood of Gaza were subjected to the fire of the enemy's artillery.
