On The Screen
MURRETTE Douglas Fairbanks has Just completed his first subject under the production of his own organization for release through Artcraft Pictures. "In Again Out Again" is the title of the initial Fairbanks-Artcraft release by Anita Loos, the clever little author-see of many of "Doug's" screen hits. Staged under the direction of John Emerson, this photoplay is replete with typical Fairbanks humor and judging from early reports, bids fair to outshine any of his previous efforts. Murrette Thursday, Friday and Saturday. WASHINGTON Cabarets and cabaret dancers are comparatively new on the western side of the Atlantic ocean. They were imported to this country from France. Tlifre !s a cabaret dancer shown tn "The Darling of Paris," produced by William Fox. Cabaret dancers were common in Paris as early as the thirteenth century. They seem to have ceased for a few hundred years and were revived in the French metropolis within the past fifteen or twenty years. It. was less than ten years ago that the first one in this country was established in Nw York. At the Washington Thursday. . MURRETTE That smiling athlete of the screen, Douglas Fairbanks, has been "cutting
up" considerably of late around New Jersey jails and New York white lights for the benefit of the camera, of course, for "Doug" is a most peaceful citizen when not appearing before the grinding machine. The result is "In Again Out Again," a red-blooded Artcraft comedy of typical rapid-fire Fairbanks theme. The picture will be seen at the Murrette . Thursday, Friday and Saturday. MURRETTE To secure the South American army shown in the Jesse L. Lasky pro-, duction "The American Consul" in which Theodore Roberts will be seen at the star at the Murrette today and Thursday the Lasky Company borrowed a portion of one of the armies now fighting in Mexico and used them for a number of scenes, but when it came time for them to be attacked by the American marines, the entire army got a streak of dramatic temperament and refused to continue, even when offered double the wages they receivd per day, which would be double the amount paid them in a month by their country while fighting. But they refused and nothing could induce them to leave camp. Finally the Lasky Company had to hire another army, borrow the uniforms from the real army, in order to finish this Paamount picture.

It does One-half to Four-fifths of your cooking with the gas turned off. It roasts, broils, bakes, boils and stews; and does them all better than the most expensive gas range and most expensive and efficient fireless cooker without the bother or expense of two separate articles.
Think of putting a fifteen or twenty-pound turkey or a big roast into the oven, turning on the gas forty-five minutes to an hour, long enough to heat the oven and the meat thoroughly, and then turning off the gas and letting the range continue the cooking process at FULL SPEED without danger of burning, while you go shopping or attend to other household duties. Thousands of housewives are using the Chambers Fireless Cooking Gas Range today and tell us that it saves from one-half to four-fifths of their gas bills, and even gas companies in their official tests of the Chambers Fireless Cooking Gas Range alongside of other well-known ordinary gas ranges admit a saving of 48.2 gas. That is why some gas companies prefer not to sell it.

"When Germany declared war the people accepted the government's statements, and I only met one man who did not think that Germany was fighting to defend herself that man is in prison now." -President Wilson's note on the sinking of the Lusitania brought about the first division of opinion. The German
army officials were taken off their guard, they were astounded when they learned that President Wilson bad given his protest to the press of America and that it had been published in the newspapers of France and England. The Imperial government withheld its publication, however, until It could be accompanied with a German answer and reasons. "Von Tirpitz and the army then began an anti-American campaign to make the Germans hate the Americans. "Newspapers and magazines were flooded with accounts of how the Americans were killing German fathers and sons at the front, although professing to be neutral." In a digression, Ackerman described his inspection, in company with other correspondents, of guns captured at Vilna and in Roumania. m The results of this examination convinced him that charges of the German government that the United States was furnishing vast quantities of munitions were unjustifiable. Krupps Sold Russians Gun. At Vilna an inspection showed that the Russian guns had been sold to that government by Krupps just prior to the outbreak of the war. The guns had been made at Magdeburg and Essen and sold to Russia when the makers knew that there was only one na-

At the time of the sale of these munitions, Ackerman declared, the makers knew that they could be used against only one country to kill German soldiers. Kaiser Makes Peace Proposals. In the face of President Wilson's Sussex note, the submarine warfare was held forth to the German people as the only means of defeating the allies and obtaining the ultimate victory promised the Germans. The Kaiser, In order to calm the people's murmurings, made peace proposals. The Allies and the United States determined to test the slncereity of the proposals and asked in each case whether Germany , Intended to keep Belgium, said Ackerman. To this the imperial government had to reply that it had not decided. But the Kaiser secured a re-united people by informing them of the peace offer and its rejection, although the people did not know the grounds. Ackerman said President Wilson's leniency and his much-criticised flow of notes had given the democratic movement in Germany a chance to grow and make its fight. Had the United States entered the war following the sinking of the Lusltlania or even the Sussex, he said, the German people would have been united and the democratic movement would , have been stifled. He declared that the way to overthrow the military control and insure the freedom of the German people and
