There was all of Ufa before her, anyway. She was young. She thrilled to the thought ' Hurredly, Impetuously, she ran out of. the 'house.'She rang up Maynard on the telephone - . "I want you to give" me" some work now." she explained "any work with some touring company." : v.i ' He looked at her keenly. My sister is in it and will look after you." - He hunted out an assortment of the plays. : . . - - "The experience will polish you up," he said. Cecil thanked him. He gave her minute instructions and, she was to be at Euston at eight. Rather awkwardly he said to her: "Have you any money. Miss James ?" She flushed. "Yes; heaps," she said bravely. (There was still the money that Robert had given her for-her honeymoon.) She was there at eight-thirty, a forlorn little . figure in a shabby blue serge frock . " But kindly," ecentric Miss Maynard took her under her wing. . She had been told by her' brother that Cecil was to be the sensation of the year. She talked to her vivaciously of the "road," Its romance and .work, its tragedy and . bbpe. r ... Cecil listened, enchanted. . It was not until they reached Crewe that she remembered her telegram. It reached. Rachel the next morning at nine o'clock. - . . "I'm going to have a career. Good kick and happiness. Cecil." On Wednesday . Robert sent for Lady Torrens. . "Look .here," be said, his blue eyes
laughing in his pale face "look here,
what is all this mystery? Lady Torrens studied him.
" 'Where ignorance is bliss 'tis folly to.be wise,'" she Quoted. "A clever
woman said to me that all explana tions are superfluous afterward."
"Look here, Aunt Monica, I've got
about six minutes left to find out all
sorts of , things -1 don't understand
What is the matter with Dosser, for
one thing? - He seems partially imbecile; nearly bursts into tears when he
looks at me. And then Where's Gorde? . And then. I say, Aunt Monica, in Heaven's name, if I can see' you, can't I see Rachel?" Real distress was apparent on his face. - ' " " "I can't tell you everything, Aunt Monica," he said; "but I I simply must see Rachel Ford soon." Lady Torrens remembered that she was supposed -to know nothing of the secret marriage. , With an inward prayer for sense, she said rather lamely:
. "Yon have . to be kept quiet, , you know, Robert." He moved, impatiently. Suddenly he got np. "Look here," he said simply. I'm married to Rachel and I'm consumed with longing for her. For God's sake make them let me see her." ' Lady Torrens rose. -' "Goodby, my dear boy," ahe said, rather wistfully. i ' All this passion and love teemed to shut her out rather in the cold. - "You'll make them let me see her?" i "I promise." : The tender June twilight was falling; the last rays of the sunlight lay like bars ' of gold ' across : the f green walls. A mass of roses beside Robert filled the room with perfume. " .The door opened and Rachel came
in. She waa dressed In the wonderful blue-green gown that she had worn cn their wedding4ay; her. face was tremulous with the loveliness of love. "Robert." she said faintly. He held out his arms. She lay, still, -pressed close to him, then very gently she drew down bis head till it rested on 'her breast. "Say. that you love me!" be whispered. "I adore you, I love you, my king, my heart's dear love!" J "Feel how my heart beats, Rachel!" He put her band onto the thin silk shirt; beneath her , touch : his heart pulsed and throbbed. It's Easy to Peel Of f All Your Freckles
The contrast between the freckles and the clear skin usually Is so great that no bleach can be more than partially successful in obliterating the disfigurements... Ordinary mercolized wax is far better; it literally peels off the freckles.
