the Benders, fourteen strong:, amvea in Richmond Wednesday evening and went. Into quarters at the Westcott hot?l. This morning the Benders went

through a sharp workout, at Athletic

vark, while Manager Myers drilled nis Quakers at the school athletic field. Myers Satisfied with Kelly From the work Kelly, the Quaker shortstop, has shown in .his position yesterday and today. Manager Myers baa decided that the ' short Held job Is in quite competent hands. Kelly ranges to bis right and left with equal ease, has a splendid pair of hands, gets the ball away rapidly with a snap throw that speeds it to first like a bullet What this little chhp can do at the best remains to be. seen . Rapp. at third. - fields his position beautifully and. in addition, is a .300 bitter. This column predicts that this bier fellow will prove one of the best third basemen in the league. The addition of Bossoloni in the outfield has made the Quakers trio of gardeners as good as any in the circuit. Playing Field in Good Shape

The playing field at Athletic park was today in the best condition it has been in in years, despite the heavy rains of the past, two weeks. This is due to the untiring efforts of Groundkeeper Justice. Work on the grandstand at Exhibition park is practically finished and the bleachers are now being put up by a large force of carpenters. The Infield at this park will probably 'be completed y Saturday and it is quite probable that it will be possible to play the first game of the Ft. Wayne series at the new park next Sunday. South Bend plays here again tomorrow and Saturday.
