MYERS ROUNDS OUT FULL NINE FOR LID RAISER

At a meeting of the directors of the Richmond Central league team yesterday It was decided to make no farther effort to transfer the first six league games scheduled In Richmond from this city ' to South Bend and Fort "Wayne. The decision was reached to play the opening game with South Bend at Athletic park. South Twenty-third street. Thursday. The games Friday and Saturday with South Bend will also be played at the same park. Sunday Fort Wayne opens a three game series here and an effort will be made to have these games played at the new playing field, Exhibition park, East Main street, which is now under construction and would have been almost completed by this time except for the unfavorable weather of the past ten days. Hold Opening Ceremonies. There will be appropriate ceremonies observed Thursday to celebrate the opening of - the playing season and Richmond's entry into the Central league, but the big municipal baseball celebration is to be saved for the dedication of Exhibition park. May 20, when Richmond opens a series here with the champion Dayton club after a twelve days road trip. There is to be. a "blow off" on that occasion that will long be remembered by .Richmond fans. Some Richmond business concerns are planning to suspend operations Thursday in time for their employes to attend the opening game. It Is expected that this event will be witnessed by a large crowd as baseball interest in Richmond is now at a high point. New Slugging Fielder Here. Billy Rapp, the hard hitting lnfielder .purchased from Peoria, and Bill Donahue, an outfielder, reported to Manager Myers yesterday, virtually rounding out his team. In fact only one deal now remains to be closed, for shortstop Mitchell of the Grand Rapids club. Crand Rapids does not want to dispose of Mitchell but he does not want

to play with that team. Myers ex-i

pects to know definitely by this evening whether he Is to get this clever player. is not worrying much for In Kelly he has a very promising young player. , For the three outfield. Jobs Myers now has Donelson, Wilcox, Bossoloni and Donahue to select from. Then there is Cy Young, a big pitcher, who can also hold down an outfield job in approved style. The Infield candi

dates are Oygli, first base, Evers,. second base, Rapp, third base, Kelly. i . . w l 1 a.. r !

pnurvBLup, Jennings, Bounewp. i ne catchers are Texter and Krycl. The pitchers are Ainsworth, Hart, Wagner,

Fromholz and Young.

It Is probable that Ainsworth will be

selected to pitch the opening game as

he Is in splendid condition.

It remains to be seen what is the calibre of the Richmond team of the Central league. On paper the Quakers appear to be a first division clnb. So far aa the executive department of the club is concerned not a shadow of a doubt exists. The club president, Elmer E. Egge meyer. is new In the professional baseball game but the policies be has adopted in directing the club's affairs have demonstrated that he Is thoroughly competent for the responsible position he holds. Eggemeyer Knows Baseball. He has a thorough knowledge of baseball and, in addition is one of Richmond's most successful and enterprising business men. ' The man who will direct the Quakers on the field is one of the veterans of baseball. Bade Myers. No Central league leader knows more about the national pastime than Myers, his knowledge having been acquired in twenty-two campaigns on the firing lines of various minor leagues. He Is regarded as a wonderful judge of ball players and is a skilful director of team play, Myers has been a Cen-

BADE MYERS tral league - manager for several seasons and has the record of winning four championships in that circuit.

WASHINGTON, May 1. Motion picture films showing General Joffre directing the battle of the Marne which made him a world hero, were exhibited publicly here today for the benefit of French wounded, and several boxes were reserved for members of the French war mission. Secretary Lane agreed to preside and introduce the speakers on the program, which included Myron T. Ilerrick, former ambassador to France. The films were loaned by the French government. '

; In the early morning hours, singly and in little groups, a small crowd of Indians stepped into the eastern dockyard, whence liners to Rangoon were taking cargo. When they weighed anchor the following morning there appeared on the quay, apparently gathered from nowhere visible, a little crowd of natives, who stood silently watching the great steamer until she vanished from sight. Professor Steinus, critically regarding Lady Torrens. shook his head. "No man on the earth could swear that all would be as before; only the good God knows that," he said. "But I, who have studied; I, who know much about the brain of man, tell you that I think it will. Now, it may rest with you and your so loved nephew as to whether you wish the operation." Lady Torrens turned to Rachel. "What do you say?" she asked. "Rachel shook her head. "I can't decide; I dare not," she answered. "Then I will,? Cecil said suddenly. "After all, Adam belonged a little to me; and I say I think whatever may happen, whoever he may love afterward that he ought to have his chance." "You are a young lady of decision and unselfishness," Steinius said kindly. Rachel flushed. With a sigh of relief Lady Torrens rose. "Then who will tell Robert?" she asked. "I do not wish him to be told at all," Steinius said unexpectedly. "His mind has had enough strain; it must have rest before I can operate. I have a plan of, simpleness, but it will do. I will give to him draft tomorrow, and while he sleeps he will be taken to that nice home in what was It street Devonshire? Yes, It is that. He

I shall be taken there, and there will I

operate at once. "I will go now and arrange all things with the sister, and I will return tonight to you again."

He picked up his wide-brimmed hat and, with an odd little bow, heels together, head bent, he kissed, in turn, the hand of each lady. Then he walked ponderously away. .Lady Torrens, with a glance, of rather irritated Interest at Rachel and Cecil, said: "I suppose you two want to discuss matters. I will leave you." Outside the room, 6he stopped. "I know that Rachel's going to make a fool of herself," she said. "I feel it, and if I stay there she will merely defer the moment. She's the kind of woman who is guided entirely by her emotion, and that sort of sign-post always indicates the wrong turning." She went up the pleasant green-carpeted stairs, with their surrounding walls hung with old prints, into Robert's room. He was asleep, and watching beside the bed Dosser sat. GOOD BLOOD Gtven good, clean, healthy blood. Nature will do the rest with any case of catarrh, inflammatory rheumatism, scrofula, ecsema, erysipelas, bolls, pimples, or skin diseases of any kind. Good blood invariably means vigorous appetite, good digestion and strength. Thus It stands to reason that an effective "alterative" or blood purifier, while it will not cure all diseases, will help !u fighting any disease, and will relieve those mentioned above, all of which comes from bad blood. Forty yeks ago Dr. A. B. Simpson of Richmond. Ind., was known as one of the most tfuecessful physicians in three states. His success was founded almost exclusively on one prescription, the most powerful blood purifier ever known. This prescription is regularly put up as Dr. A. B. Simpson's Vegetable Compound. It has. been used extensively all over the country, and in forty years has never failed to do good. Simpson's Vegetable Compound is harmless as it is effective. It is sold at $1 per bottle at all drug stores. Adv.
