Have You Ever Seen a Man With a Bullet in Him, Bering for Water ?
Have You Ever Seen Typhoid and Dystenery Eat Their Way Into the Vitals, of an Army Camp? Do you remember Cuba and the Philippines, and some of the wasted wrecks of humanity that came back as well as those that never came back just for the lack of sufficient army hospitals and hospital supplies? Do you remember MonUuk Point? Do you remember the graveyards around the Concentration Camps?
JZZZT Don't worry about getting your dollar in. Worry about being left out.

Well, it isnl going to happen again. You can make up your mind to that. When our soldiers move, the Red Cross is going to move with them. They NEED the moral support of every citizen of good character and patriotism and they are going to get it. They are calling for the public enrollment of men, women and children as members. They don't ask you to drive an ambulance, carry a litter or nurse the wounded, but they do ask to give encouragement and assistance in your home city. It isn't a request it is a privilege. You are going to be allowed to do your share.
Every man is going to ask every other man, "Did you join the Red mi n a i

cnua is going 10 asK its lamer ana us motner, - nave you enroiiear And if you can't say "Yes," you are going to be ashamed. It isn't merely a case of waiting for war. Whether there is any war or not, our boys may have to police our borders, guard our railroads and our bridges. If there is war there will be plenty of bullets flying and too many of them will hit their human marks. If you have ever seen a man with a bullet in him begging for water; if you have ever seen festering wounds where the gangrene gathers and the blood poison follows, just for lack of attention that merely a Base Hospital can supply, you will understand a little better what Sherman meant. ' How May I Join ? It is easy. Here is the subscription blank. If you pay a dollar you will be a member for one year of American Red Cross. If you pay two dollars, you will also receive the Red Gross Magazine It is worth the price.
But it isn't only war that kills. Fever can dig more graves in a month . than bullets can in a year. Wherever an army is gathered an epidemic of pestilence maj' creep in unless the Red Cross is equipped to stamp it out. A soldier has double courage at the front when he knows there is a good Base Hospital in the rear. We are ready now for popular membership. Your dollar, sir, and madam, yours. EVERY BANK IN RICHMOND WILL RECEIVE MEMBERSHIPS, EVERY NEWSPAPER WILL HAVE A MEMBERSHIP COUNTER, AND EVERY STORE WILL HAVE ITS STAND. We want that membership and we want it quick. The American Red Cross is a neutral organization. It ministers to captive enemy as well as to the American soldier. War is here and we don't propose to see the best flesh and blood of our country sent to any borderland of sage brush and sand, or any foreign land, and not have them taken care of.
Ready today with your manhood, your womanhood, cation center, sign your name and give your bit.
