PERMIT ALLIES TO RECRUIT MEN
(By Associated Press) WASHINGTON. April 13. Chairman Culbertson, of the senate judiciary committee will introduce the fame bill.
More than 12 per cent, of New York working women are married.
On The Screen
. MURRgTTE , Manager Murray of the Murrette theatre, announces bis engagement of Mary Pickford's newest photoplay released by Artcraft Pictures, "A Poor Little Rich Girl," adapted from the well-known book and play of the same name by Eleanor Gates. As an ideal vehicle for "Little Maryit is readily felt that this story affords Miss Pickford one of the best motion Victure subjects ever secured for her. The novel by Eleanor Gates of which a special photoplay edition has just been issued, became widely popular as did the play which scored a big hit at the Hudson theatre, New York City, several years ago and duplicated this success on the road.
WASHINGTON June Caprice's newest picture for William Fox. "The Ragged Princess," will open at the Washington theatre on today and Saturday. This is Miss Caprice's third picture for Fox, and is said to be an even greater succes than her two previous appearances. The story concerns the adventures of a girl who runs away from an orphanage, hires out as a farm hand, after getting into a pair of overalls, gets adopted by a wicked rich man in the city, finds that the property he controls is really her own, and then marries his half-brother. KING BAGGOT HERE The playing of character parts has a strong fascination for men whose most profitable work is in playing the handsome hero. Famous leading men have nearly all shown a certain
weakness in this direction. As character men pure and simple, it is probable that none of them could earn more than an ordinary salary. Their fame and fortune lies entirely In their good looks and personality. "When Baggott does go In for character work, however, he does it thorcughly and the pity is that character work does not pay well enough for a man of his ability to do more of it. Recently he played ; all parts In a protean picture. There were ten characters in this production, all of them different as could be.
STARTS ARMOR PLANT
(By Associated Press) WASHINGTON, April 13 Construction, of the government's armor plate and projectile plants at Charleston, W. V., will be started immediately, Secretary Daniels said today, following his announcement of the selection of sites there for the proposed factories. Congress appropriated $11,000,000 for the armor plate plant and $1,700, 000 for the projectile plant.
RICHMOND MAN SUED
EATON, O., April 13. Daniel Lincoln, of Richmond, Ind., is made defendant in attachment proceedings filed in common pleas court by Dr. J. C. Ryder, of this city, who seeks to collect $121.60. Realty left by the defendant's father, the late John W. Lincoln, is involved in the action.
Johnson City (Tenn.) 'unions will start a co-operative store.
Robinson Circus : Comes to Town
) 1 What promises to be the big circus event in Richmond is the visit of the John Robinson Shows on April 27. ' For some reason or other- it has been some years since Richmond has been included in the itinerary of this well-known organization, which is said to have been greatly increased In size and dimensions for 1917. -' Judging by press eulogies from other cities where the big combination has appeared since leaving winter : quarters at Americus, Ga., the performance which now utilizes four circus rings and two stages is of remarkable excellence and entirely free from the tiresome repetition so often seen in this form of amusement. The aerial acts, riding, racing and hippodrome features are of an unusually exciting and thrilling nature, well calculated to arouse the enthusiasm and appreciation of spectators.
