' To the tans of the Indiana-Ohio League days no introduction to "Nervy Nat" it necessary. He was the leadlng pitcher on the Richmond club in ! that ill-fated circuit. Vila mnertoire consisted of a "round

house" curve and a fast ball that took live minutes to travel from the pitcher's box to the plate but he generally turned in a well pitched game. It's been ten years since the I.-O. league turned up its toes and was - planted without ceremony, and Fleming was at least twenty-five when that tragedy occurred, but he writes to his former manager, C. Jessup. that "the old soup-bone Is better now than it ever way." Fleming reports that he is making rubber goods in Akron, O., but still plays the national pastime every summer, being with the Atlantic City team last year. , Manager Myers believes be can worry through this season without Nat's services.

The proclamation issued by Governor Goodrich reads as follows: To the People of Indiana In the face of the greatest shortage In the food supply this country has ever known we are preparing to enter the European conflict. Indiana will supply her quota of men. She must prepare to supply more than her quota of food. It

is necessary to organize the agricultural interests of Indiana quickly, that we may plant a larger acreage, grow larger crops and utilize to the utmost every . product of our farms. That our people may more fully

understand the urgent need and take the steps necessary to meet that need, a call is hereby made for a public meeting in the county seat of every county in Indiana, to be held at 1:30 p. m., Saturday, April 7, 1917. All farmers, county agents, better farming associations, farmers' institutes, granges, chambers of commerce, commercial clubs, grain dealers, bankers, millers, canners, women's clubs, schools and all other Interested organizations and individuals are urged to united effort that this meeting , may accomplish the purpose for which it is called. JAMES P. GOODRICH, Governor. "It is as important for every community in this country to immediately begin the mobilization of its food supplies as it is to mobilize an army of fighting, men. It is the duty of every citizen to respond to Governor Goodrich's appeal," Mayor Robbins said this morning. a : Would Increase Food Supply .'In addition to arranging for greatly increasing Wayne county's food supply, I would like to point out the important work the women of this county can perform along this line of activity, the canning or bottling

of all kinds of vegetables and fruits for the next winter. Let us stop this

reckless waste of throwing away

bottles and such cans as can be utilized for the conserving of food sup

plies. Keep these thing and use them for preserving vegetables and fruits throughout the coming spring and summer."
