Historical Books in Our Library ; ;.The city librarian comes forward with the i suggestion that persons who care to read American history and especially the works mentioned tin an editorial of last Wednesday apply, at the ( Morrisson-Reeves library. The volumes selected ;by the United States Bureau of Education are listed in the library and may be had for the i asking. '. ... . I . We are glad to call the attention of our readers to the splendid facilities .for profitable reading offered by the Morrison-Reeves collection. 1 The library may not be the largest in the state of Indiana, but the collectirti of books is a selective lone and adapted to the general needs of a community; such as Richmond it.Often we overlook the very good things at our door. We believe this is applicable to the library. Our citizens could develop a mighty fine habit and recreation by patronizing the library. ;; ,:Tie -volumes are; open to; inspection, permitting one to ramble among the thousands of books until he finds one that suits his fancy. Splendid reference facilities enable one-to obtain data and :': supplementary reading on any particular subject that is engrossing his mind. , : If there are patriots in Richmond who want I to refresh their memory on American history
and to draw new inspiration from democracy's struggle in the past, let them consult the librarian for material. The library is a public institution, and the assistants are glad . to assist the applicants for books. " r"
- Freedom in Siberia 5 - Out of the bleak wastes of Siberia, a stra gling line of, starving and diseased political exiles is returning to freedom. One Hundred Thousand men and women who dared fling: defiance into the face of tyranny and strike a blow, for human freedom are returning as heroes from a servitude iriflictad to " crush out ; their aspirations to see Russia a home of free men. The pen-picture by , an American newspaper man, printed in The Palladium a few days ago, is one of the great stories of the war. . : The president of the Exile Reception Commit: tee at Petrograd said that there were probably altogether 100,000 persons in Siberia; who. had been released under the amnesty measure of the Provisional . Government.' ; V As soon as the newsof . the 'revolution spread through Siberia, those exiles who had the means started for the nearest railroad stations. Fifty thousand sledges are speeding to the railroads to beat the spring thaw. Most of the exiles will have to wait until river traffic opens. These men are straggling back to civilization from prison camps so remote that no guard is needed and in many places ' there are no blacksmiths to sever chains and shackles. The first trainload was filled with shaggy, ragged, extremely emaciated, uncouth and unwashed men, some suffering with unbalanced minds, few able to grasp fully the news of their deliverance from servitude and a living death. The new spirit of democracy that is sweeping through Russia did its first great work when it permitted these men to come back. Perhaps the Slav may. be able under intelligent leadership to prove that democracy can exalt the lowest and enoble the least worthy.

r The Pure Food and Drug Laws aim to protect the public by preventing mis-statements on the labels of preparations but some people continue to f.' accept "extract" of cod livers think- - ing they will get the benefits of an S emulsion of cod liver oil. - The differenca is very great. An J "emulsion" contains real cod liver oil, which has had the hearty endorse- ; inent of the medical profession for 7 many years, while an "extract" is a product which contains no oil and is j highly alcoholic. ; mat Is Uric Acid? . Everyone has urio acid in the system; but naturally in small quantities, Exceseive amount is caused by eating too much meat and foods that ferment in stomach. ,4 The kidneys, being the filters of the blood, are supposed to separate and throw the poisons out of the system. Weak, tired and overworked kidneys fail to do this, hence the poisonous uric acid and its associate poisons .contaminate the Z blood, causing backache, lumbago, rheumat ism, dropsy, drowBinesa and tired 7 feeling. To overcome the trouble is only a ; matter of toning up the kidneys, and this is best done by a treatment with Anuria ? (double strength), three times a day. 3 Anuric is a recent discovery of Dr. Pierce - of Buffalo, N. Y., and can be obtained at ? any drug store. Experience taught Dr. Pierce that Anuric a a more powerful agent than lithia . in dissolving uric acid, as hot water melts '.J sugar. Anuric is a regular insurance and Z life-saver for all big meat caters and those who deposit lime-salts in their joints. 3? A WOMAN'S PAINS CHASED S AWAY. . ' Laporte, s, Ind.-f" For v five years I ? suffered terribly with woman's weakness. The doctor said that only a surgical
operation would give me any relief. I then
v wrote to the faculty of Dr. Pierce's Invalids' Hotel' in Buffalo, N. Y., for 2 advice (which Was very freely given me) and I followed it just as closely as I could v for about two months. The only medit1. fines I took were Dr. Pierce's Golden X Medical Discovery and his Favorite Preecription, alternately, and I received t most wonderful benefit in a very short 7 time. My pains left me andU felt like an entirely di'fferent wrson. Recently I have 3! CTpcrienccd tbo discomforts of midde life. Great emotion has been caused in the little Swiss, republic , by the newa that ' its i great Republican sister is about to enter the war. " The Journal De Geneve says: ."Germany, sees a new adversary- ranged against her, a great country fit 100,000,000 inhabitants, whose wealth is immense, whose resources are inexhaustible 'and who will bring into, the war its Inventive genius and -the steadfastness an v energy of its invincible people.'; It is not only for its individual rights; it is; for entire humanity that America draws the sword.. ;, , ; v"Far from the battlefields of Europe,

the causes of the war, interested in keeping jaeace ' as, a nation which counts more than 15,000,000 hyphenates ; among '; its - members, exploited more than any other -neutral nation by German propaganda .and hostile to all militarism, America would certainly have drawn the sword if the public conscience had not been outraged by an accumulation of horrible acts, culminating - in the systematic devastation of French provinces. Will the German people understand the meaning of the American flag flying over European battlefields?"

night, April 10, at the Washington, "The Princess Pat," the Corl theatre, New York success will be presented.
No American composer has a better
knowledge of olor in orchestration, greater ability in creating atmosphere, faculty to compose more delightful melodies or to produce a more enjoyable operetta than Victor Herbert at his best and he without a doubt was in the mood when he wrote "The Princess Pat." To this his latest work he has contributed twenty numbers everyone of which has been classed a gem but it is not alone the music that goes to make the play so charming an offering as the book and lyrics of Henry Blossom are especially brilliant and in perfect keeping with the excellent score. The play has a real plot and in it Grace Holbrook is engaged to marry Anthony Schmalz an old man of

An Efficient Remedy for all forms of Catarrh ' A fair personal trial will prove Its merits. Mrs. F. E. Anderson, another Indiana lady, had catarrh for seventeen years; was more worn and exhausted upon getting up than any other time, now feels like a new woman.. Read what she says: - '"' I have been afflicted with running catarrh for seventeen years. ; I was having stomach, kidney and liver trouble, was operated on for . gall stones. I had contraction of the muscles so that my head would be drawn back, my limbs and arms drawn up; from this, my sufferingwas almost unbearable and would last for hours; was also a sufferer from sever? headaches. I was very nervous and could not stand any excitement; could not sleep a restful sleep; was more worn and exhausted upon getting up than any other time. When using the first bottle of NATURA I felt languid like I had a bad cold. I have now used five bottles, no stomach trouble, no contractions of the muscles, my nerves are in fine shape, I sleep a restful sleep and I feel like a new woman. I heartily recommend NATURA to any one afflicted .with catarrhal affections. Yours truly, MRS. F. E. ANDERSON, 131 E. Washington St.. ' ' . . .
