Canvass County For Road Funds
W. P. Stlmson, assistant to Judge Lowe, president of the National Old Trails association, will make a personal canvass of Richmond and other Wayne county towns along the National road to raise $470 to provide a maintenance and promotion fund for the association which will mark the old
trail through the county. This campaign is necessitated because of the request of the old roads organization for assistance from the county was refused by the commissioners. Mr. Stimson will be assisted by some local good roads enthusiasts. DESCRIBES BULLET RIDDLED RAIDER (By Associated Press) SAN FRANCISCO. Cal., April 3.
L. W. J. Welter of Soerabaya, Java, who is here, told today of the exploits of a German raider named The Marie which arrived recently in Tand-jong-Prick, the port of the Batavias. She had many bullet holes In sides and her crew numbered only twenty men. "When the Marie was boarded by the Dutch authorities," said Welter, "the men, ell Germans, said the vesvel was formerly a British freighter which they had captured off the coast of Africa near Zanzibar."
