OIL INSPECTORS ROBBED OF JOBS BY COURT RULE

Yesterday three Federal judges, Bitting in Federal court at Indianapolis, ruled that the Indiana oil inspection law was unconstitutional, and as a result three Wayne county men, appointed deputy oil inspectors a few days ago by Governor Goodrich, have lost their new state jobs. They are John Taylor, Richmond, former murkfitmaster under the last

Zimmerman administration; Karl MyRichmond, secretary of the

Watti county Republican Central

cmmitt. and Charles Young of Cam

bridge City, a prominent partly leader

in the western part or me county . Commissions Run High.

The district Taylor and Myers were to serve has been served by William A. Hatfield, a Democratic appointee, for over two years. Young was appointed to succeed William Hangley. inn a Democratic appointee. It is

said that Hatfield's commissions as oil Inspector approximated $2,000 a year. Under the law the deputy inspectors waived one-half of all fees collected.

The position of deputy oil Inspector was easy to fill, very little work being required, and these deputyships have

always been In great oemaaa. rri w. Mote of Indianapolis, a for

oner Wayne county man . who resided A&r Whitewater, under the Federal

court ruling forfeits the office of supervisor of the state department of oil Inspection, to which he was appointed

rrnor and one of his chief political

lieutenants. - inlunetlon Is Granted.

The federal court has granted a preliminary Injunction restraining Mote mnA hi flenuties from further inforce-

ment of the law. The decision was given after argument on petition for injunction of the Moore Oil company f rinHnnAtl and five other oil con-

renresenting the Independent

iti infemnt of the country. State of

ficials estimated the revenue from the

11 inspection department at i6o,vv arhirh will now be cut off.

It is expected that the attorney gen.Mi viii not nroceed with the case.

The state, if it seeks a reversal of the

ruling, must prove to me biisih;uu i of the court tha tthe state is not coli..4 tnr oil inspection work more

than is necessary to pay expenses or

the department. Qurncy a. wyere, fecial counsel for the state, stated during the argument that the state does

collect more wan tne wjuu vub.. i inspection. Fees More Than Cost. The decision was based upon the provisions of the United State constitution against the taking of property without due process of law, preventing any state from charging more for the inspection of any article in Interstate commerce than the actual cost of inspection, and forbidding interference by a state in interstate commerce. By this ruling the Federal Judges lid with dispatch what the Legislature failed to do at the last session, for the decision does away with the oil inspection department. During the time James P. Goodrich campaigned for governor one of his pledges was the abolishment of the department and its sixty-odd Jobs, which he declared useless. The Democrats ot the Senate united with two Republicans in defeating the bill to do away with the department. Half of the oil inspection fee goes . inaneetor and half to the state.

C D. Chamberlain, ot Cleveland, O., counsel for the oil companies, in his argument, estimated that the companies have paid an average of $185,000 a year for Inspection in Indiana. The cost of inspection is approximately $125,000.

CURED HIS RUPTURE

I was badly ruptured while lifting a

trunk several years ago. Doctors said

my only hope of cure was an opera

tion. Trusses did me no good. Finally I got hold of something that quick

ly and completely cured me. Years have passed and the rupture has never

returned, although I am doing hard

work as a carpenter. There was no operation, no lost time, no trouble. I have nothing to sell, but will give full information about how you may find a complete cure without operation, if

you write to me, Eugene M. Pullen, Carpenter, 103-C. Marcellus Avenue, Manasquan, N. J. Better cut out this notice and show It to any others who are ruptured you may save a life or at least stop the misery of rupture and the worry and danger of an operation. Adv.

no doubt, have heard of the famous English Banker, a mul-ti-millionaire, Lord Rothchild, who often said he made all his money by never buying at the bottom or selling at the top. In any generation there are only a limited number of men wise enough to profit by a timely warning. Thousands of men were speculating in the very same markets with Lord Rothchild. He made millions most of them lost everything. WHY? Because they waited too long to buy or sell.
