CARL WOLF CALLED TO NAVY SERVICE
BY PRESIDENT'S SWEEPING ORDERS
Madame Amelita Galll-Curci will remain In America for a while. There are twd reasons. !, One Is that the people- are so kind 'to her. they admire her art ao moch. The other is that the German, submarines lack discrimination. They'd 'as soon puncture a liner carrying a renowned diva as a cattle ship. "It it no Joke, this submarine busi

I have been used to such things in Europe. But it la so gratifying to know the people love one's art." she replied, One of the chief distinctions of Galll-Curci is her devotion for her fam

The party arrived Sunday afternoon. They leave tomorrow for Columbus, Ohio, where Madame siuv. tomorrow night. Two Thousand Signatures Put
to Statute Plea
The Women's Belief Corps reported today that two thousand signatures have been secured on petitions to county commissioners for the erection of a statue to Oliver P. Morton in the northeast corner of the court house yafd. It is the plan of the Organisation to present the petitions with the neces
sary percentage or voters signatures before women Vote in the Oct6ber election. This will save much complication. The Relief Corps will take advantage of the new system of registration in getting signatures. Since all persons who vote at the constitutional convention delegate election must register at the county clerk's office at least twenty-nine day betOr th election, petitions will be placed near the place of registration. In this way, every voter will have aft opportunity to sign the petition without going out of his way. In the near future, the organisation will consider the advisability of keeping, some person near the petition to call attention to it DUAL POWER CAR HERE

Indianapolis, for of all the men on the
row, that know attd HKe J. Morns Jones, h6 is Just "Johsey" or the "Sage of Richmond."
When everybody was swarming the William Small company headquarters and bemoaning their fate at not being able to set automobiles because of the
railroad car shortages. J. Morris came
to the Hoosier Capitol and toos in shows. He refused to worry over such things as car shortages. Here is the way Jones sized up the
situation. "A shortage Of freight cars has really proved a stimulant to the motor car business, said Jones. The situation has caused a great deal of confusion and worked hardships on manufacturers, dealers and users alike on account of the inability to secure
enough cars to transport tne rinisnea .Ut6mo'oiie to distributing points." "But eventually, continued Jones to a gang of Indianapolis newspaper men, "the whole situation will be turned into a blessing. Never before has the necessity of the automobile been so well demonstrated as during thi3 freight shortage. We have heard for
years about the automobile as a luxury, but no better example of the mo
tor vehicle as a necessity has ever developed. In every section of the Unit' ed States there is a serious shortage
of motor cars. due to the inability or the railroads to handle the motor products. The freight car shortage has effected every line of industy and mo
tor vehicles have been employed m unheard of fields to take the place of
the usual railroad transportation. The
motor car has been tested in this situation and proved efficient The tie-up coming in the most severe time in win-ter-a period which heretofore, the motor car was supposed to be more or less impracticable. City merchants onii mflTmfptirfirs have made deliver

"The whole freight car situation has simply demonstrated once more the extensive fields for the automobile which are still open. "So," smiled J. Morris JoneB, Chevrolet dealer at Richmond, "dark clouds often have silver linings and the greatest adversities often prove to be blessings. So why kick?"
