WAR PREPARATIONS ENCOURAGES BULLS ON WHEAT MARKET
(By Associated Press) CHICAGO, March 20. Notwithstanding that profit taking by numerous holders gave the wheat market a material set back today, the effect was only transient Purchases for strong houses soon took the slack out of the market and carried quotations up grade. War preparations by the United States government had a tendency to encourage the bulls, and so too, had administration efforts to eliminate as far as possible the dangers to Americans ahlpplng. Opening prices, which ranged from c decline to o advance with May at $1.87 to $1,88 and July at $1.58 to , were followed by a sharp general break and then a rise all around to yesterday's finish or considerably above. In corn as well as In wheat, realizing eales were quickly absorbed. Demand proved sufficiently active to lift the market to a new high price record. After opening off to up, values underwent moderate sag and then scored general net gains. ' Oats showed no Independent strength. Commission houses were the best buyers. New top-notch Quotations on hogs lifted provisions. Packers supported the advance.
