SLEET STORM HITS FRUIT; DELAYS CARS
Serious Injury mar .. have been caused to fruit trees by the sleet and rata storm which swept Eastern Indiana today. Street car and interarban traffic was delayed and telephone service interfered with by the storm, which is the first sleet storm of the year. The heavy fall of sleet early this morning burdened trees and caused the young llraba and twigs to break. This is believed to be likely to curtail the fruit crop this season. The fleet melted rapidly, however, and that may save at least part of the crop. Nearly an Inch of rainfall bad been recorded at noon today by the waterworks pumping station's instrument This approximately is the record for the year. Reports Break In Lines Manager Gordon, of the city car lines, said interurban traffic between here and Dayton was delayed seriously this morning because of sleet on the wires and falling tree limbs. Falling tree branches snapped trolley wires at Twentieth and Main streets, North Eighth and A streets, and West 'Fifth street and National road. Irregular street car service resulted from these breaks, but they soon were repaired. Telephone service on some country and toll lines was cut off but Manager Bailey expected this morning to have all damage repaired today. A large force of "trouble-chasers" was at work early. The storm started at midnight with snow, which turned to sleet and then to rain. - -
Mrs. Sharp Lays Claim to Title as Champion Stitcher in County
Mrs. Sara Wodman's title as champion stitcher of Wayne county for 1916 is threatened. A rival to the Economy woman has arisen in Richmond. The rival is Mrs. Ann Sharp, 212 North Twentieth street Mrs. Sharp claims she took more stitches during 1916 than did Mrs. Wodman and she produces figures to prove her claim. In her challenge Mrs. Sharp gives her age as 68 years. She would like to know the age of the title-claimant. When the Palladium printed a Btory, Feb.- 27, awarding the palm to Mrs. Wodman, that point was not included. Here is the record upon which Mrs. Sharp bases her claim to the stitching title: Pieced and worked six crary quilts; Pieced twelve quilts and quilted five of 'em; Pieced five comforts and knitted 'em; Embroidered four pairs pillow cases, one gown yoke, baby cab robe, baby dress, six towels and one large center piece; Made seven night dresses, 20 aprons, three degases for herself and three shirt waists. In addition to all this, the work-brittle Mrs. Sharp went visiting two months during 1916 and took care of her flowers besides.

HOW TO RELIEVE HEAD NOISES
l GOOD ADVICE FOR THOSE WHO I FEAR DEAFNESS I People who are growing hard of hearing and who experience a stuffy I feeling of pressure against their ear ! irums, accompanied by buzzing, rutns'illng sounds m their head like water "Vul(ng or steam escaping should take prompt and effective measures to stop this trouble. Head noises are almost invariably the forerunners of corr.plet or partial deafness, and ' most deaf people suffer from tbein ' constantly. Sometfmes theee head ' noises become bo distracting and nerve-racking, with their never ceasing "bum," they drive the sufferer aFmost frantic and complete nervous b-f akdown may result. Thanks to a remarkable prescription, it is now possible to lessen the severity of these head noises and ofIp.ti completely overcome them and with the disappearing of the head noises the hearing also greatly imt proves, and very frequently can be restored to normal. It can be easily prepared at home for about 75c and we believe is a most effective treatment for this trouble. From your druggist secure 1 oz. Parmint (Double Strength); take this home and add to it H pint of hot water and 4 ounces of granulated sugar. Stir until dissolved. Take one tablespoonful four times a day. Parmint is used in this wjy not only to reduce by tonic action the inflammation and swelling in the E'istatbi&n Tubes, and thus to equalize the afr pressure on the drum, but to correct any excess of secretions in the middle ear, and the results it jives arc usually quick and effective. Fvery person who has catarrh in iny form ehould give this recipe a jial. Clem Thistlathwaite can supJy you. Adv.

Mr. Foulke recently returned from a visit to the Islands. The government is using an extinct crater, which towers over the capital island, as the base for a huge fortification, Mr. Foulke said.
