SCHOOL AT MILTON GIVES GENEROUSLY
MILTON, Ind., March 6. Charles Hale received word that his nephew,
Claude Gillam, who is in the British army, is critically ill. He was formerly of Dublin, but his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gillam, now live at Anderson..... Miss Charlotte Newman of Cambridge City was the week-end guest of her aunt. Miss Florence Newman.... The attendance at the M. E. Sunday school, Sunday morning was 114 and the offering $6.14. A vocal duet was given by Doris and Frank Lemmon of Doddridge Chapel, that was greatly appreciated and applauded. . . .Mrs. Henry Hoffmann entertained the Home club Friday evening. The topic of the program was "The Delineator" and the evening was given by Mrs. Theo Crist and Misses Carrie Michael and Nettie Bennett. The latter gave an interesting talk. Mrs. Hoffmann served popcorn balls. .. .Mr. and Mrs. Will George of Liberty spent over Sunday with Mr. George's mother, Mrs. Jennie George, who is sick. ... Mrs. E. C. Denny has returned from a pleasant visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Hutchens, of near Winchester.

CONDITION SLIGHTLY IMPROVED
Ambassador Sato, of Japan, is ttrongly on record today as denouncing the German plot to involve the Jnited States In war with Mexico and lapan. Secretary of State Lansing ilso exonerated the Japanese Governnent cf any complicity in the German government plot. Ambassador Sato .ias issued the following statement: "With regard to the alleged German ittempt at inducing Japan and Mexico o make war upon the United States, rade public through the press on
rhureday, the Japanese Embassy, i while lacking information as to wheth-j tr such invitations ever reached Tokio, I fesires to state in the most emphatic,' anguage that any invitation of this lort would jn no circumstances be en-' ertained by the Japanese Government. ! Ahich is!n entire accord and in clcss elationehip with the Allied Po-Aer on ' cccunt of formal agreement and cf i :ommon causa, and, moreover, whose j 'riendship with the United States Is'
svery day growing in sincerity and :ordiality."
EATON, O., March 6. Slight improvement has been noted in the condition of Alice, one-month-old daughter of Capt. and Mrs. Ora Overholser, Lexington road. The child underwent an operation Sunday and for a time was in a critical condition. A tumorous growth was removed. Several French lighthouses have been equipped with lenses that enable their lights to be seen from fifty to sixty miles at sea.
OXFORD, O., March 6. -An appeal has gone out to women graduates of Miami university to contribute to a loan fund for girl students. A similar fund for boys has been in existence for some time. Many poor girls are working their way through Miami, trying to become teachers, and frequently one has to give up when the loan of a small amount would tide her over. It is hoped that $5,000 can be raised for this purpose. CLASS TO GIVE PLAY
ECONOMY, Ind., March 6. Friday night, March 9, at the M. E. church at 8 o'clock the young people's Sunday school department will give a play which bears the title, "Mullberry Corner Bazzar." PALLADIUM WANT A DC PAY.
