manufacturers would hold their products in warehouses until the limited boycott . had been removed, and then tack tlie additional .interest on their investment plus the warehouse charges' on the stuff before they release it.C r . . Once peonle were driven now they are inspired. Prof. Walter Dill Scott Eat Less and Solve H. C. of L. . That's the dictum of Louis L. Packer of the Packer-Packer company, wholesale grocers, Chicago. He believes it will solve the high cost of living. His theory is Prices are governed. by supply and demand. When the demand exceeds the sup, plyr prices go upward; when the supply is greater than the demand, prices descend. Hence, if the housewives buy less and their families eat less for a few weeks or months, prices must come down. - 'Packer illustrates his, theory by a reference to the increase in the price of canned stuff last autumn. - Mrs. Housewife, -fearing an increase in prices, bought two dozen' cans, of corn or peas
at one , time instead of one or two cans as she normally did. In turn, the grocer instead of buying fifteen cases, purchased 100 cases to supply the increased demand in his store. The jobber trebled his orders to meet the demand of his customers, and as a result the manufacturers were swamped with orders and prices jumped skyward. Buying in small quantities to meet daily needs is the remedy, Packer suggests to meet this condition- . He overlooks the co-operative effort that will be. necessary to put this suggestion into effect. Housewives throughout the United States would be compelled to quit using canned tomatoes for a month or two before the curtailment would be noticed. In the meantime, the 'jobbers and
... Also More Truth Than Fiction No one would accuse Charles M. ; Schwab of being a dreamer, a theorist or. an idle talker. t ..... , ( When Schwab says something, you can count on 100 per cent brains arid 100, per cent achievement back of it.' He does not believe, in "genius." Efficient work is his substitute for that, much overworked and abused word. Here are a few' of his conclusions that are worlh while reading and pasting on your hat band: "I have found that when 'stars' drop out, successors are usually at hand to fill their places." . "If more people got go; enthused over their day's work that someone would, have to remind them to go out to lunch, there would be more happiness' in the world and less indigestion." . "Captains of industry are not hunting money. America is heavy with it. They are seeking brains specialized brains and faithful,- loyal service." . "Nothing is so plentiful in America as opportunity." "There are more jobs for forceful men than
there are" forceful men to fill them. Whenever the question of buying new works comes up we never consider whether we can make the works pay. Tht is a foregone conclusion, -if we can get the right man to manage them."

It'vns th housn most largely r-ifofiizccl by Sir Maline Gorde, partly on recount of its nearness to Portland Placo, partly because the sister of the home was an excellent nurse, who had had her training at his own hospital the National. It was a tall, narrow, London house, but looked rather more cheerful than most of its type. The door was painted green and had an old-fashioned, carved brass bell-pull, and the windows had little white silk curtains. A neat maid opened the door and then, showed the two men Into a charming sitting-room, furnished almost entirely in dull greon and white. There were Innumerable flowers growing in pots and placed in vas$s. After a moment the sister entered. She was small and wore a dress of lilac-colored linen and a big,, white apron, and the regulation "sister's cap upon her brown hair. Robert was most Impressed by her beautiful eyes, which were deeply blue and looked, he thought, kind. She 1 had a very gentle voice and manner. As she talked to him a little of his nervousness and dread vanished.Nothing very 'horrible could hap-

"Your marter is'' quite all right; he'll be up in a fortnight." " 'E ain't never been ill before," Dor.er said, turning away. His little eyes glistened suspiciously as he tramped up Portland'Place. "It's so sudden," he thought, "it's

He went round to Rachel's flat, only tb'he'told that she Bad had a frightful headache all day and was resting; he decided to walk on and see Lady Torrens at 'her house in Clarges Street. CARE MEANS ECONOMY
"It is clearly evident that the words 'care' and 'economy' in automobile parlance, are synonomous and still a great many motor car owners fail to recognize this in relation to their tires," said Mr. H. A. Little, local branch manager of the B. F. Goodrich company. ..
