1 BETTERMENT OF COMMUNITY LIFE IS PURPOSE
WHICH PROMPTED FORMING OF DUBLIN LEAGUE
BY HARRY B. DEMAREE Manager Dublin Entertainment Society DUBLIN. Ind., Feb. 20. Following la the footsteps of the larger towns, the citizens of Dublin now have an organization, which is making a bid toward becoming one of the most progressive movements that has ever been inaugurated in western Wayne county. The organization is known as the
Social Welfare League of Dublin. It was started last fall and is composed of the best workers from, the leading church bodies of the town, augmented by some very strong and influential citizens . who are not affiliated with the churches. In fact, the intent of the organization was to make of it, a citizens' league. It. has as its purpose, the social betterment of the community. Without Social Activity. Dublin for a decade with reference to social entertainment for its people has virtually been given up as lost. It has ceased to maintain a lecture course and with the-exception of the famous Dublin Girl's quartet, has no musical organization to promote the musical welfare of the community. The people of the town have reached the stage when they are actually hungry from' longing for some social entertainment . The Social Welfare League, in a way, has satisfied this desire, although it has not yet reached the strength where it can be termed a community power. But, little by little, the directors of the league hope to accomplish much good for the town's people. In the . beginning it was the desire of the promoters of the league to bring to Dublin a first-class lecture course for the winter season, but as the finance was not forth-coming, they hit upon the plan that has been in
practice at Indianapolis for the past
1 drawing the young people from the
church. He is the superintendent ot the First M. E. Sunday school at Richmond. Mr. Sullivan's lecture will be augu-
mented by the appearance of the Milton orchestra, comprising seven pieces under the direction of William Daniels, which has been engaged to furnish special music. No admission will be charged. Everybody cordially invited.
WILLIAMS SILENT ON COUNTY AGENT
In speaking of the request of Center township farmers for the restoretion of the county agent system, County Superintendent Williams, who is also president of the county board of education, said he had no comment to make. "It is a problem for the farmers of the county to solve," said Williams. "If the farmers -want a county agent, they will get one. The board of education must be ruled, by the requests of the majority."
CITY CHURCHES
Continued From Page One.l Gaston of the college music department will precede the lecture tonight . Dr. Millis said in part: "City populations are inherently decadent. They must continually be sustained by transfusion of fresh country blood. -The cities draw the raw materials of their manhood as well as the
raw materials of food, clothing and
few years; that of bringing to Dublin, j shelter, from the farms and the village.
prominent men engaged in various
' professions, to lecture on the topics of the day. Dr. McKee Heads Society. From the start the lectures have been well attended and the movement has been declared a big success. Dr. C. E. McKee, is the president and Prof. Aldo Cain, secretary of the league. Dr. McKee has announced that the lectures will be continued throughout the year as long as there is interest taken in the movement. It is planned to add other features as. the work continues and it. is hoped to produce something that will yet ' place the town in the ranks of the proi gressive towns of the county. Dr. McKee announces that some very prominent men will in all probability be secured for Dublin in the near future. The next lecture is to bo given at 2
p. m. next Sunday, February 2o, at
the Friends' church. On this occasion the league will present Mr. Hassal
Tarkington Sullivan, who holds the po-
. gition of News Editor on the Richmond Palladium. Mr. Sullivan is a graduate of Indiana university and has been designated, "The Lecturer With the Punch." ' Ho comes recommended by ex-Governor Ralston, who heralds him as one of the coming young men of Indiana and vouches for his eloquency. Next Sunday Mr. Sullivan will lecture on a live and vital subject entitled. "Advertising to Beat the Devil." He will deal with the great problem now before the church people, of howto compete with conditions that are
PEPSIN NUX IRON and Svsaparilla Fine Course of Medicine Physicians and pharmacists have long known the desirability and difficulty of combining iron a superlative tonic in a blood-purifying medicine. The combination of the iron with Hood's SarsaparUla has now been secured through the happy thought of prescribing Peptiron Pills in connection with the Sarsaparilla the latter before eating, Peptiron Pills after. In this .way the two medicines work harmoniously, giving four-fold results in blood-cleansing and up-building. Peptiron Pills include peprln and iron, note the name, Peptiron Pills, nux vomica, manganese, other ton- , ice, digestives and laxatives. What better course of medicine can jou imagine for this season? You get bood-purifying, appetite-giving, liverctlmulatlng qualities in Hood's Sarsaparilla and great strength makers in Peptiron Pills. Buy these medicines
today. They also combine economy with merit Adv.
An eiieciive siay-on-tne-rarm propaganda would in a brief generation or two work serious damage to the city. City Fed by Country Church. "The city church is fed by the country church. In the leading Protestant denominations by far the larger part of the ministry is drawn from the rural population through the rural church and the small college, possibly more than ninety per cent. Only a somewhat smaller percentage of the lay membership is similarly derived. The country church is not only the training ground for recruits for city work, but also the breeding place. "If the foregoing is measurably true.
it is obvious that as a matter of self protection the city church must in every way support a vigorous administration of the rural churches. Some one has said that 'the business of the ; church is mission.' It should be added that the particular business of the city j church is home missions. ; . Must Outgrow Present Policy. j "In the state of Indiana, theoretic-j ally at least, all of the wealth of the j state is proportionally available for the ' education of each child. It ought to ! be that all of the wealth and working j power of the whole church should bei proportionally available for the relig-! ious culture of each child. "This means that the church must
grow beyond its present individualistic policy; that the country must have as good ministers as the city; that the farm boy have as fine music, as attractive church buildings, as able preaching as the city boy. This attitude on the part of the city church is necessary for its own ultimate salvation. And then, it is Christian. The country boy has as much right to the life abundant as his city cousin. "And a fair recognition of the sources of the economic wealth of the
city will make it clear that for the city church to bear a good part of the burden of country church is a matter of simple equity."
BARTEL SURPRISES
SUFFRAGE BACKERS

bill in the house.
Bartel had been regarded as a foe of
women's votes.
Representative LaFuze also support
ed the measure, which was in eftect a

HAIR COMING OUT?
Dandruff causes a feverish irritation
of the scalp, the hair roots shrink, loos
en and then the hair comes out fast. To stop falling hair at once and rid the scalp of every particle of dandruff, get a 25-cent bottle of Danderine at any drug store, pour a little in your hand and rub it into the scalp. After a few applications the hair stops coming out and you can't find any dandruff. Adv.
Child's Tongue . Becomes Coated If Constipated When cross, feverish and sick ' give "California Syrup of Figs." Children love this "fruit laxative," and nothing else cleanses the tender stomach, liver and bowels so nicely. A child will simply not stop playing to empty the bowels, and the result is they become tightly . clogged with waste, liver gets sluggish, stomach sours, then your little one becomes cross, half-sick, feverish, don't eat. sleep or act naturally, breath is bad, system full of cold, has 6ore throat, stomach-ache or diarrhoea. Listen, Mother! See if tongue is coated, then give a teaspoonful of "California Syrup of Figs," and in a few hours all the constipated waste, sour bile and undigested food passes out of the system, and you have a well, playful child again. Millions of mothers give "California Syrup of Figs" because it is perfectly harmless; children love it, and it never fails to act on the stomach, liver and bowels. Ask your druggist for a 50-cent bottle of "California Syrup of Figs," which has full directions for babies children of a-U ages and for grpwn-ups plainly printed on the bottle. Beware of counterfeits sold here. Get the genuine, made by "California Syrup Company." Refuse any other kind with contempt. adv.
