Continued From Page One.1 4 a plea of not guilty and the hearing of her case was set for Friday. It is stated that a young white girl has furnished sensational information concerning resorts alleged to have been operated by the Hazzard woman and by Hawkins. White Women Visit Place.
At the latter place, it is said several white women have been frequent visitors and, the police have been informed, some business men have visited this place. Warren Finn, colored, operator of a shoe shining stand, pleaded gnilty in city court this morning to having committed an offense with a white girl at the Hawkins place and received a fine of $25 and costs. The police assert that a colored woman recently robbed a white man of $17 after enticing him into the Hawkins place. "I already have sufficient evidence that Kate Hazzard conducted a resort at the 'little green house.' The infor
mation I have shows that quite a few married women frequently met men at this place and that young girls also went there. So far as I have been able to ascertain this place was only frequented by white people," Prosecutor Strayer said today. Go After Red Light. The raids on the Hawkins place and the Muey place were conducted by Chief Goodwin and Officer Vogelsong. SOCIAL SERVICE
Continued from page One ing news and misstating facts in order to crystalize sentiment against Melpolder and the board; Roasting Wat Forecasted. One of the board members yesterday is understood to have said Melpolder was to have a jury trial last night and the Palladium was to be roasted to a turn. President Giles was disposed to be fair with a Palladium representative who called upon him to make a legitimate request for news of the meeting. He declined to say anything, although intimating the board might feel called upon to issue a statement later to its subscribers. He said tie public was not entitled to information concerning the meeting, as it was private. He said the board was acting within its rights when it held a secret meeting.. No Application Made. He gave as his personal opinion that
"when a man blocks the system he should go." He didn't link this up with the present situation. By inference, the representative understood that Melpolder had not been discharged, that the Palladium had been scored and that none but friends of the board and secretary were present. Treasurer Jordan became indignant when he was approached in search of information. He said he refused "to be a party to any personal fight," which led the representative to believe that this charge had been made
in the meeting. He refused to make a statement con
cerning: the meeting and apparently resented the Inquiry. ; He accused the Palladium of conducting a campaign against Melpolder "for, personal reasons." He accused the Palladium of being unjust to Melpolder and the board and, in effect, charged the newspaper with distorting news to reflect upon them. Room Given for Inference. He was asked to cite an instance of misstatement, which he did. He admitted he had not seen the story in question, which led the representative to believe that the charge had been made in meeting. He could not cite another instance. He was told Melpolder had admitted to a representative of the Palladium that the story only had inferred what he objected to and that the inference was inspired
by a telephone conversation with Mel polder. ; , ; Other board members were called but declined to make a statement Melpolder was called and told thai the Palladium would be glad to print the statement he made to the board He eald he could not say anything ox that score as the matter was in tht hands of the board.
