PENSION PLAN
TO 'INCREASE IN SALARIES
"A satisfactory solution - of the pension question must be obtained before I would favor considering any Increase in the salaries of the teachers of the Richmond public schools," said Dr. M. P. Johnston, president of the city school board today In commenting on the action of the City Federation of Teachers yesterday In adopting a report asking for an increase of approximately $100 per annum : for each teacher. ' - - ". "I believe our teachers should receive more pay than -they now get but the pension System they have asked for is absolutely unfair to the public. The teachers, without- considering the public's interest, hare asked for a -pension system -which provides an entirely too . small a fund for the teachers to pay into the pension fund and which also permits them to retire on a pension larger than the salary the average teacher receives. Be cause I opposed the pension authorized by the state in favor of a system which would be fair both to the teachers and to the taxpayers many local teachers sought to defeat me for reelection last year." The City Federation of Teachers in voting to request the school beard for j an increase in salaries specified no 1 time for making the salary increase effective. The . question of pensions SAYS COUNTY JAIL MES BETTER MEN Although he expressed the opinion that Wayne county needs a new jail for men, Rev. J. G. Wade, field representative for the Central Howard association, who was in Richmond today, complimented highly the care prisoners received at the hands of Sheriff Clem Carr. - The Central Howard association has its central offices in Chicago and works for the betterment of prison life, for men. The association has a membership of 2,500 " wealthy people living in central states. ! At present it is gathering statistics Which it will later use in compiling bills which will be presented to the . various state legislatures. " , "I believe that men who go into the county Jail will come out better men." On Head and Neck. Itched Terribly. Scratched and Became Sore Eruptions. Lost Rest At Night. Had to Have Hair Clipped.
