Farmers Short Course The only Farmers Short Course in the Sixth District vill be held at Cambridge City, January 23 to 26 inclusive. Instructors from Purdue University will direct the work of home study and farm management and improvement. The program is so comprehensive that practically all problems of rural life will be discussed. The vital part woman plays on the farm has not been overlooked. Courses for her benefit and entertainment have been included. The small price of fifty cents has been fixed to help defray the cost of the course. Purdue university is trying to bring education near to the farmer. It realizes that the farmer does not have the advantages the city man enjoys to study and improve his particular line of work. The citizens of Cambridge City and vicinity appreciate the importance of this extension work and have arranged the course. The farmers of Wayne county who want to stay abreast of the developments in agricultural work are given a splendid opportunity to improve their knowledge and to add more dollars to their bank accounts. The old notion that a "book farmer" is a dreamer is disappearing and agriculturalists welcome the suggestions and discoveries made by the professors at the agricultural schools and institutions. An up-to-date farmer co-operates with the man in the laboratory.' He brings his
problems to him and acts on his advice, the result being that not only the farmer is enriched but that the whole community also shares in the added prosperity of the farmer. If every farmer in Wayne county would attend the Short Course the agricultural work of the community would receive a great boon. Surely the whole county hopes that a large number of persons, farmers, and city residents, will go to Cambridge City and listen to the lectures.Reforming the Cities The cities of Indiana do not care by what means a change is brought about that will enable them to throw off a political administration for a business manager form'of administration. The means and methods whereby this change is evolved, provided that it is done with dispatch, are secondary. What Indiana cities are crying for is a change, so that their affaire will be conducted by men who know their business and not by amateurs who are elected into office for a few years. - ! Heads of departments hold their office under the present system not because they are peculiarly fitted for the job by mental training and actual experience, but because they are the choice of the man who is at the head of the city government. And usually the very head of the city government has few qualifications that fit him for the post except his ability to get votes at the election and his ability to perfect a machine. The Indiana Legislature can confer no greater boon on the citizens of this state than to give them some sort of municipal relief. The most potent remedy will be an opportunity to re-organize city government along business lines so that the politician will be thrown into the discard and the executive assume the management of the municipality.

ALLIES WAR MOVE CALLS FOR GREATER EFFORT TO CONQUER
LONDON, Jan. 16. The Time military correspondent maintains that the prolongation of the war, "as the result of the foredoomed failure of the peace move," throws upon all the allies the duty of making greater efforts in order to deserve victory. He says that Germany did not wait for a reply to her prace offer but Initiated measures a month ago to expand her supply of men and munitions. "We ought to see," the correspondent writes, "clearly enpugh now that of,r efforts on land, especially on the western front, have not been adequate to secure a decision or even to deserve It." Referring to the imputation, "with n tendency to exaggeration," that the British have 2,000,000 men in France and the French have 3,000,000 he says: "Statements of this nature serve rather to obscure the issues than to Illuminate them. It ought to be known and admitted that the aggregate national strength do not express the real value of fighting armies. We all ought to count in bayonets and guns in order to ascertain our chances of victory and when we count in this manner the figures dwindle to quite a different total. The truth of the situation in the west is that German has 128 divisions opposed to use and that the number of French, British and Belgian divisions is not yet such as to promise a decision in an offensive war."

Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin Highly Recommended as a Family Remedy. In children the slightest irregularity of the bowels has a tendency to disturb the entire digestive system, and unless promptly remedied invites serious illness. The experienced mother knows that by training her children to regularity in this respect, and when occasion arrises administering a mild laxative, she will have little need for the doctor's services. Mrs. Leo Weigand, 3251 Central Ave., N. S., Pittsburgh, Pa.', whosV.two boys, Frank and Joseph are shown in the illustration, writes that she has found Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin' a most effective laxative, not only for the children but also for herself, and that she will always keep it in the house to use when needed. Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin is a combination of simple laxative herbs with pepsin that acts easily and naturally, without griping or other pain or discomfort It is pleasant to the taste so that children like it, and is equally effective on the strongest constitution.
