WHEAT TAKES RALLY AFTER FIRST SLUMP

CHICAGO, Dec. 29. Continued ur

gency of export demand rallied the

wheat market today after an early de

cline. Dispatches from Liverpool referring to a scarcity of supplies there

and showing an advance In quotations

tended also to give an advantage to

the bulls. The temporary Initial weak

ness here was associated with down

turns in Wall street values. Opening prices, which ranged from unchanged to one cent lower, with May at 11.72 to $1.73 and July at $1.38 to $1.38, were followed by moderate further losses, and then a rise all around to well above yesterday's finish. Corn hareened owing to opinions expressed that the high prices of hogs warranted an advance. Exporters also were said to be active bidders for January-February shipment. - After opening off to Vz up, the market sagged a little and then scored a decided upturn. Oats paralleled the action of corn. Trade, however, was light. Lower quotations on hogs pulled down provisions. About the only demand was from shorts.

A. W. Swain, president of the Economy board of trade, took a fancy to one of the big old fashioned closed carriages in which families of wealth took their Sunday afternoon rides in the days before the automobile. He purchased one today from George Dilks, which was part of the Evans family coach house equipment at the Spring Grove homestead. Mr. Swain expects to make use of the carriage for his personal use, partly, but he also has another use for it. "I am going to put John Bachelor, the former mayor of Bloomingsport, in the carriage and get a young fellow with a blackened face and plug hat for coachman and drive him around to

have a little fun," he said. -
