I At the Toy Store Window ' New York Americanl There's a rov of little faces every night outside tliQ store ; ' Where they never draw the curtains when the I. watchman locks the door, Eager, wistful little faces, looking at the heaps : of toys ; . That will bring a Merry Christmas to a host of girls and boys. Every night they stand there watching, tattered children, in a row, Looking at the only Christmas that they possibly can know. Look them over, Mr. Shopper, when you walk v downtown to-night. Thin and hungry little children, borrowing a brief delight, From the wonders of a Christmas which to them is just a dream, Just ft swiftly passing vision of how happiness r might seem. And perhaps, when you have seen them, you will ' hunt up Santa Claus, , . For they sadly need somebody who knows how to plead their cause. Santa Claus has swarms of children on his Christmas calling list, But he'll add a few names to it if you see him and Insist. Help the old man out a little, he'll be glad to add your mite. , To the fund that he's investing In the spreading of delight. , And these little, wistful children will be grateful all the year For their share, so long denied them, of the v blessed Christmas cheer.

Ideals Ideals are necessary. Some class ideals with visions and dreams. We believe an ideal is a potential factpr if it can be translated into acts and deeds. If it remains a mouthing and a sentiment, it is vapor and of the same stuff that dreams are made of. No nation can exist if it depends alone on ideals and does not try to work these ideals out in practice. The ideal of prohibition of child labor is a good one, but if children

remain in sweat shops and mines because practical men do not obtain remedial legislation, the ideal amounts to nothing. Unless we strive to realize ideals, we are mere dreamers.

Only Serves to Warn Because J. J. Weaver, a teamster of Indiana-

polis.a few years ago invested $50 in a Florida

land company and now is worth $35,000 because

of the investment is no proof that it pays to put your money into land which you have never seen. For every Weaver there are thousands of suckers who invested savings in stock that is not worth the paper on which the investment is printed. Keep your money at home, invest it locally, or put it in a savings bank.

GHfilSTMAS NUMBER PLANNED BY SCHOOL

Getting Your Money's Worth When a man buys a suit of clothes he intends to get his money's worth out of the suit of clothes. If some of the boys and girls in high school and college would look upon their education in this light they would work more diligently to get their money's worth out of the educational institutions which they are attending. Every time a pupil shirks studying a lesson or goes to class inadequately prepared he is cheating himself and not the teacher or the school. Education is an investment and if you do not intend to get out of it all that you can, you are squandering your own or your father's money, and you would be better off working in a store or in a shop.

Chamberlain's Cough Remedy This preparation is especially valuable for colds, and its remarkable properties have won for it a wida reputation. It acts on nature's plan, loosens a cold, relieves the lungs, opens the secretions and aids nature in restoring the system to healthy condition. Obtainable everywhere. Adv.

Life's Lubricant Good cheer is a great lubricant. It oils all of life's machinery. Good cheer is a great producer. It adds wonderfully to one's active ability and increases mental and physical power. It makes hosts of friends and helps us to be interesting and agreeable. ' Good cheer will attract more customers, sell more goods, do more business with less wear and tear than almost any other quality. Optimism is the greatest business getter, biggest trader, truest achiever in the world. Pessimism has never done anything but tear down and destroy what optimism has built up. In the business office, in society, in politics, in workshops, everywhere, the favorite is always the cheerful fellow with the bright smile and bright thoughts. Good natured, cheerful ones do not waste their vital energies as rapidly as the grumblers or the too sober, too sour ones do. They work and live with much less friction. Good cheer is a simple habit. It is one of the best in all the list. Christian Herald.
