GENEVA, Switzerland, Dec. 21. "It is a veritable financial absurdity," says the Tribune de Geneve commenting on the low price of the dollar in Switzerland, which is now worth Ave francs fourteen centimes, whereas the normal price is Ave francs eighteen centimes, while Swiss money is at -a great premium in Paris, London and New York. In Paris, for example, a 100 franc Swiss note is worth 114 to 118 francs today. Americans living in Switzerland are losing by the exchange rates. The Tribune adds that the situation is extraordinary because, whereas America is full of gold and lending millions to belligerent nations, Switzerland is surrounded by fighting nations and has contracted a debt, since the war, of over 700,000,000 francs, but its credit is Increasing as the war progresses. The Swiss government Intends shortly to raise another loan of 100,000,000 francs for mobilization and other purposes.

GOVERNMENT STOPS SLIDES IN PANAMA AT GAILLARD CUT
PANAMA, Dec, 21. (Correspondence of The Associated Press.) The slides In Gaillard Cut which have been menacing navigation have been overcome. Today the channel Is in better shape than it has ever been before. For a minimum width of 180 feet it is 35 feet wide. The slides at Cucaracha and Culebra which have bulged forward as If to smother the waterway under their mass have been dredged away until they look flat and impotent. Barring some unforeseen development, such as a new break in a wholly unexpected place or the crumbling of the great cliffs of breccia at Gold Hill or Contractors Hill, the interruptions of traffic by the slides are done. The engineers in charge will not commit themselves to prophecy but they say the Cut is in the best shape it was ever in, and the fact that they have taken away all but three of the dredges and cut out the Sunday and holiday work is a strong indication of their confidence in the situation. The three dredges are carrying the excavation back to the original channel line in order to establish a defensive zone to prevent encroachments on the channel. Much work is yet to be done to complete the channel to its full width of 300 feet with a bottom 40 feet above sea level, giving a depth of 45 feet, but it is already possible now to give passage to the biggest ships on the seas without any trouble.

CURED HIS RUPTURE I was badly ruptured while lifting a trunk several years ago. Doctors said my only hope of cure was an operation. Trusses did me no good. Finally I got hold of something that quickly and completely cured me. Years have. passed and the rupture has never returned, although I am doing hard work as a carpenter. There was no operation, no lost time, no trouble. I have nothing to sell, but will give full information about how you may find a complete cure without operation, if you write to me, Eugene M. Pullen, Carpenter, 103-C, Marcellus Avenue, Manasquan, N. J. Better cut out this notice and show it to any others who are ruptured you may save a life or at least stop the misery of rupture and the worry and danger of an operation. Adv.
