FAGE'EIGUT
THE lUCilMONI) PALLADIUM, DECEMBER, mi .. A Brave Prince I Do You Use Your Tooth-Brush?
Once tipon a time there .was an Island, which was ruled by a King and; Queen; They had only one daughter and they loved her very dearly, and she was very happy. On this island lived a witch and an Orge, who lived together, and their powers were very wonderful. They had stolen all of the maids of the island but they could not get the Princess. I One day when the Princess was playing In the courtyard, the witch, who was looking around there, chanced to see the princess, and by means of an invisable rod, made the princess fall. Then she ran in and picked her up and held her so tight that she could not see where 'she was going or who she was with only that she was going. , When they came to the cave, the Orge snatched her up and said, "Now we've got you,' will your father try. to hide you? "No, we've got you; now."' "with that , he snatched up his great club and beat and beat her. . Poor princess was made to work, hard . Her soft, white hands were warped and bleeding now. But her father's sorrows were greater than hers. He would -not let himself be seen for seven years, and when that time was nearly up 8 prince; came riding .by. '. He was seeking a princess and he wished to. do some knightly deed- to win. He went into the castle and asked the king if he knew of a princess in that part of the, world. Then the king, with tears in his eyes told the story of his. lost princess. Then the prince said, ""May ! wed your princess if I get her?" "Certainly,"
replied the king, "Anyone who can do that is worthy to have my princess." So off he went and very soon came to the cave. In he walked and sat right down by the Orge. "I wish to have a talk with you." With, that the Orge gold in a mightly
voice, 'You wretch! you torment! You want the princess, so begone! begone!" The prince strode away, ami thought what next to do. ,' "I know what I will do. I will go to thefair-
ies and ask them, what to do," he
said; . . v .. ... - , So he galloped away and soon found it was not an easy task to
find these fairies. "I shall watt
till dusk and they will have their dance,"-he thought.:; This plan worked, well and the fairies gave him two ears of; corn and they said, "Throw these with all your force against the Orge'anJ they will fall immediately. Then
grab up the princess and have her
back to the castle in seven minutes and you. go to the, cave In t henext moment and the Orge and the witch will sleep forever and yon can take all their possessions, a3 for the other maids, they have been made into soup long ago." With that the fairies were gone, and th? prince did as he was bidden, and all worked well,-and the prince got all the possessions. Then he went to the king who said, "You shall have my daughter, and you shall be king in my place. " So they had a grand wedding, and they lived happily ever after.
